RTR WRITING: igniting instead of medieval?

Hello,
We will be doing RTR this year, and I have a question about writing. We have one lesson from Writing With the Best that was scheduled in CTC that we never got around to. I also have Igniting your Writing that we've never done. So my question is... would we cover everything needed if we replaced the Medieval Writing Lessons with the 1 lesson left from last year and then do all of Igniting. I would like to use the books I have if they are a reasonable substitute and save a little $$$, but not at the expense of missing out on some needed, grade appropriate writing instruction. My boys are 5th and 7th grade this year.

You could do "Igniting Your Writing" - it is a good writing program. I used it tutoring dc and enjoyed it very much. The "Medieval History Based Writing" program is more difficult, however, and it matches the history, which did help my ds doing RTR make good connections that aided him in retaining more what he learned. The "Medieval..." lessons also taught my ds how to outline well in a key word format, how to use higher level vocabulary within his writing, and how to assess his writing via a rubric. For these reasons, if you have the funds, I'd get the "Medieval History Based Writing" program, however, if funds are really tight, you could sub in "Igniting Your Writing." Hope something here can help!
