Hi! I am a homeschool newbie! God called me to pull my kiddos out of our great public school for a variety of reasons, and I have found myself here at HOD. I have been researching ALL SUMMER, and HOD seems like the best fit for our family! I am beginning this journey with lots of excitement... and some fear, but I clutch the verses in Isaiah that proclaim "He will keep in perfect peace all who trust in Him." And I am so thankful for such a Christ centered, academically sound curriculum in HOD!

My 1st grade son and 4th grade daughter (who has cognitive delays) will be doing Beyond Little Hearts, while my academically advanced 6th grade son, who is a voracious reader, is going to dive into Revival to Revolution. I was reading some of the "fine print" about Revival to Revolution and it says that it is structured to be 4 days a week, about 4 and 1/2 hours a day. Is Beyond Little Hearts structured for 4 days, too, or is it 5 days?

Thanks,
Carrie (mom of 4 kiddos in Indiana)

It is 5 days per unit. Revival to Rev is 35 weeks and Beyond is 34 weeks. The guides are 5 days per unit through the Bigger Hearts guide. The 4 days a unit in the upper grades is so they can pursue some other interests or finish up unfinished work from the other days, or whatever you want for your family on the 5th day. We have used the 5th day to usually just move on in the next unit and not miss a day. We always take lots of breaks in the spring and fall. :)

Hi Carrie, and welcome to the HOD Board! :D I love the Bible verse you shared - it is a good one to cling to! I think you are going to appreciate the Christ-centered focus of HOD as much as we have here. :D Gwenny did a super job of answering your question already, so I'll just agree. I did want to chat a bit about placement. It sounds like your younger 2 dc are probably accurately placed. For your sixth grade ds, I think I'd challenge him with advanced Drawn into the Heart of Reading books, and choose no higher than "Resurrection to Reformation" for his core HOD guide. The HOD upper guides are MEATY! :D Unless your ds is familiar with Charlotte Mason styles of learning, such as oral narrations, written narrations, and dictation... and unless he is used to multiple-step directions for completing projects and experiments independently... and unless he is used to writing quite a bit of different times and in different ways throughout the day... I'd not place him in RevtoRev yet this year. My ds did RTR as a sixth grader, and he is an advanced voracious reader as well, testing off the charts, but RTR was definitely as high as I would have gone with him. I do think you know your ds best, but a sixth grader doing RevtoRev is incredibly rare, and a sixth grader who has never done HOD doing RevtoRev, well that's even more rare... I'm not saying it can't be done, I'm just saying it is something to really consider, as I want you to have a wonderful year with ds! Anyway, just food for thought - it is so nice to meet you, and I'll look forward to getting to know you better here on this great message board! :D :D :D

In Christ,
Julie
