Getting Ready for LHTH and LHFHG

I will be starting LHTH with my almost 4 yr old dd and 5 yr old ds on tues (soooo excited!!!) along with the right side of LHFHG for my 5yr old. I have been looking through the posts trying to find out if I need binders and such but haven't found anything as far as how to set the guides up. I did buy each of them their own binder and will section it with dividers but since alot of the work in LHFHG is in workbooks, I didn't think I needed much more than just a simple binder and maybe a folder for each of them to keep all their work together. Do I need anything else? I am supposed to receive my guides on Mon and will be going school supply shopping that night and starting on Tues as we are so excited! Just wondering what others have done to keep everything organized during the year. Thanks so much

Great question! We will be doing LHFHG and LHTH this year too. I saw that LHTH has lots of pages you copy/print. So, I bet a binder for those will be very helpful. But, that is all I could find so far...

A binder where you either hole-punch the pages and put them in or buy a huge pack of sheet protectors (this is what I did) to be their binder of all they have done for the year. With LHTH you will make a "color book" and a "1-10 book" so you will need those small folders with the 3-hole brads in the middle and sheet protectors (at least that is how I did it) to put the pages the child makes in. One folder for each book, so if both of your children will make those 4 folders. All the other work, crafts (if they are flat, which many are not), storytime pages for LHFHG if you decide to do the storytime as part of your R side stuff.
Somewhere there was a LHFHG supply list. If this is your start of Homeschooling then there may be some supplies you would need to get, but really for LHTH not too much. Glue sticks, scissors, masking tape (you tape on the floor a lot), crayons, white glue. Sometimes there are activities like write the letter in chocolate syrup, or use dish soap in a baggie or something (was that LHFHG? I forget). Magazines to cut up. This was one I didn't have. If you don't though, probably you know someone who does. My mom keeps magazines (she actually subscribes to magazines, I don't, I don't have time to read them).

Thank you very much Melissa! Its good to know about needing a couple of folders for each child since everything is on sale now for school. I can't wait to get everything (my "box" is supposed to come Monday!!!) and get started with HOD

Some people like to do all the copies at the beginning of the year. I tend to do them as I go along, though sometimes this does interrupt the flow of the day because I am bad about not looking until we have started and then "Oh I need a 'Count on Me' today" so I go make it. Also I guess it is probably nicer on the binding to make all your copies of a particular page (Count on Me is the main one you use over and over) rather than do one every time.
You will use a lot of things you have around the house, tin foil, dry pasta, cereal, dry beans, cotton balls things like this. I wouldn't go out and buy something if I didn't have exactly what was called for I would just improvise with something similar.

Thank you for the heads up about copying. I probably wouldn't have thought to copy everything at the beginning of the year but that sounds like what to do to save time for sure. I did find the post of supplies needed for LHTH/LHFHG and its so nice Carrie chose to use so many household items! I haven't even started this curriculum but I already LOVE it lol and have recommended it to many people.

We have a scanner, so I was thinking of scanning everything at the beginning and then printing as needed. Has anyone else done this with any of the guides?
