How do I fix my Rod & Staff sequence for my oldest?

She's a little over halfway through Rod & Staff 7 at the end of her 7th grade year.

Does anyone have experience with the Rod & Staff 9/10 books? Will I be able to just continue and use those where some of 7 and 8 are scheduled?

I have no experience, but I am hopeful that this will work because I am in a similar situation. It did not even occur to me to think about how it would work in the future until I read your post.

I think I'd finish out R & S English 8 and get R & S English 9 to use as a reference only for that last portion of high school. Looking at 9 at convention, it seems to be more of a book to use as a reference than to work through, and having been through all the previous levels with your dd, she'll have had 'enough' formal lesson plans with it. But that is just my opinion!

StillJulie,

I agree that Rod and Staff 9 and 10 are mainly writing texts, and I'm not sure that your daughter will need more writing instruction on top of everything writing-wise that is already within the HOD guides.

I'd be more inclined to have her finish English 7 in grade 8, and then spread English 8 out over her freshman and sophomore year of high school. At that point I'd probably use the English 8 workbook once or twice a week throughout her junior and senior years just to keep the English fresh. She'll have plenty of application in her writing in the HOD guides. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Thank you for your advice. It sounds like a good, workable plan.

On a side note, I handed all my Christian materials over to the director of the virtual charter school last week (Rod & Staff English, DITHOR, State History from a Christian Perspective, and my HOD manuals) for her to align to the standards. (I'll get it all back in July.) I know this isn't your goal, but she has been SO impressed with everything she's seen. She really appreciated a long write up that you did regarding your approach to writing throughout a child's education. (I e-mailed it to her.) I've been pleased that it doesn't look like I'll be expected to add anything to the curriculum you've already put together. She doesn't anticipate any problems with granting high school credit as we get to those guides either.

StillJulie - that is so nice to hear! :D Just in case any questions about Carrie's past experience in education and/or questions about her qualifications to write educational curriculum arise, you could mention that she taught 11 years, including elementary ps, middle school ps, college level courses for teachers, and inservice classes for our entire school district (26 elementary schools; 6 middle schools). She has her BS in elementary education with middle school endorsements, and has her Master's Degree in Education in the area of Administration, so she is qualified to be a principal at any level of schooling from preschool to high school. Anyway, she's too humble to mention any of that very often, and I thought if questions arise, it may be helpful to know some of that. HTH, and I'm glad you are on the tail end of this process! :D

In Christ,
Julie

Thanks, Julie. I didn't know all of that. Most impressive!
