Entire year of independent history gone

I don't know how he did it, or where he did it, But my Son has lost his entire Independent history notebook, with all the drawings from PHFHG :( All his hardwork and growth just *poof* into thin air. We've turned the house upside down but nothing, car too.

I'm not sure what to do right now about his portfolio or grade. He is on 24 right now, so we have abut 10 weeks left. If I was grading this, I would say independent history counted as 1/3 of his history grade. Which means He's get a low B or C without it. It also leaves me with nothing to put in his portfolio for 4th grade beyond handwriting samples and his science and math and History Narrations. No artwork before unit 23.

Not sure if I should be angry, sad, disappointed, or everything...

Of course, I know that it will show up when we pack up the house in the fall, but I would be nice to show my husband when he get's home from Africa. Proof we did something besides sit around eating cheese puffs all day ;)

Dear Julsoliveira, My heart goes out to you---how disappointing! Praying that you will either find it soon or that he will bless you with His abundant graces to heal your disappointment. Many hugs!!!

Augh. I am always putting something in a safe place and then don't remember where that is.

I sure hope you do find it soon though!

Oh, so sorry! :( But, here is the good news - you still have 1/3 of PHFHG left to collect samples! :D :D :D Back when I used to teach public school, we only could save a one or two samples of work for each subject area (or the files would have been HUGE to store). The goal was to show a sample in each subject area that was a student's very best from the year. The collective file contained a "best" from each school year in each subject area, so it was easy to see improvement through the years. :) Do you have any samples from last year's school work? If you do, you can do a "before" and "after" like this for each subject area too. I bet the other portion will show up at some point, but until now, you could start a new portfolio from this point forward, and when dh comes home, wow him with a "before" and "after" in each subject area from last year to this year! :D Or, if you have nothing from last year to compare to this year, just a "before" and "after" from Unit 24 to Unit 35 in PHFHG would be neat. Or, just a "BEST EVER" in each subject area from what ds has left to do in PHFHG. :D :D :D Let your ds in on the excitement! He'll probably want to show daddy his best ever and may even enjoy being part of the choosing process. :D HTH!

In Christ,
Julie

I feel your pain, and I am praying that you will find it. My son lost his TWICE! I was not happy. We did find it both times. I kept saying, "It is a three-ring binder. You can't have lost it." Boys!

Thanks for the encouragement :) We haven't found it yet. But, It let this be a lesson...just hours after I posted this, My husband called and asked me to scan him my copy of my power of attorney. Guess what??? I can't find it! I guess it's not only young boys who lose important things  A lesson in humility if ever I was handed one. Hoping everything looks up in the morning.

Julie, I do have a nice thick folder from last year. We used a spiral bound art notebook this year for IH. Blank on the top, lines on the bottom. I was hoping to use it for future guides until it ran out. Best laid plans and all that jazz. The bright side is, since he is doing his illumination on a separate piece of cardstock, we can frame it when it's finished, instead of leaving it in the book. This spurred him to be extra neat in his work today.

**I found the POA's and Wills! Still no history notebook**
