I have no idea about water color except the little kid version

are you supposed to wet the paper first?

This blog has great week by week watercolor tutorials for CTC.
I don't know anything about watercolor, either, and this is amazingly helpful.

I was the same way when we started CTC. I had NEVER done watercolor painting and knew nothing about it.

The Introduction in CTC has some super tips for watercolor painting! Reading through those will really help, but also the daily plans' instructions each week for watercolor painting are super detailed without being tedious. HTH! Have a super year with watercolor painting in CTC!

I looked at that blog, and some showed them wetting the paper and some didn't!
I'm assuming that the guide will tell us if we need to wet it? I haven't looked ahead.....
Jayden is really nervous about doing the painting. She gets nervous about anything new. So I read the instructions to her yesterday while she followed them. Today I'm going to stand there while she reads the directions aloud and follows them, just to make sure she doesn't skip anything. I'm also helping her understand amounts needed of the paint. I don't want her looking at the blog herself because I don't want her to have an idea of what the finished product looks like.
I also told her that some parents do the project "along with" their children because it's so much fun. I told her if we did that then we would do it at separate times not seeing what each other did and then compare/contrast it at the end. She really loved that idea!

Yes, the guide will tell you whether to wet the paper first or not. We used the tube water colors, which come out a thick pastes and are to be diluted with water to get the consistency you desire. I was nervous at first to use them, but we've come to enjoy them a lot.

yes we got a beginners kit of that kind of water colors. So the names of the colors don't match up right now. I just couldn't afford 50 dollars or more worth of paint. I figure it's a big enough step up from the crayola stuff that it'll feel real to her AND ME!
I did miss the part in the blog about taping the paper down, so now our papers are all curled up.... but it'll be fine once we get it in the binder. I'm excited about doing the tree today! I'm excited to see how she interprets it.

I love your idea of doing your projects seperate and then showing each other when done! That is great.
I also love peeks like this into what, to me, is the "upper guides". I am excited for you and excited for what we'll be doing too, later on!
Eta: maybe there is a youtube intro to watercolor painting that you both could watch. Techniques and stuff without it showing you actual HOD projects.

Oh that's a good idea! I'll look into that.
CTC so far is very very awesome! Of course we are three days in

but it is by far my favorite guide!
Of course, her not following directions is messing with my mind and I can tell will be a source of contention if I let it be. I think it's her age partially... she seems a bit spaced out for the past couple of months. But, having the boxes labeled I, S, and T is really helping!
