Questions about Little Hearts

I am currently finishing up MFW for Kindergarten. We've decided to make the switch to HOD largely because my DS6 is reading at a 2nd grade level, and we need to be able to customize his reading. After getting some advice regarding placement and looking at the placement chart, I was planning on going with Beyond. However, at a Homeschool conference this weekend (which HOD did not attend) I was able to look at some of the history books at the Christin Liberty Press booth. After thoroughly looking through them,I realized that the content would be above my son's head, especially since they were written for like 3rd grade. So, I've decided to place my son in Little Hearts using the 1st grade options.

A couple of questions:
1. Has the Teacher's Guide been updated with the changes in the 1st grade Fine Motor Skills options (Going on Eagerly and Hearing and Helping)?
2. Does the History for Little Pilgrims book come with it's own teacher' guide? I've seen that through Christian Liberty Press, there is one. If it does not come with it, are there thorough instructions in the Little Hearts TG? I see that the Little Pilgrims TG has a lot of background info. and vocabulary. Would it be helpful to order this?
3. We'll be using Primary Mathematics 1A and 1B for Math. I've heard that some people order the Beyond Guide for the Math Exploration instructions. Are the PM teacher's guides necessary or helpful, or would anyone suggest ordering th Beyond Guide just for the Math Exploration stuff?

If anyone can help with any of these questions, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Hi and welcome to HOD! I will try to answer your questions the best I can :)

First, I read on another thread that LHFHG is not due to get reprinted until this fall, so I believe a supplemental schedule is being sent out for the G and H FMS books. You can use the printed schedule along with the rest of the guide or write the page numbers into your guide.

Regarding History for Little Pilgrims, the TG is not needed. Carrie has scheduled her own activities through the rotating box to coordinate with the history readings. To try and add the TG would be superfluous IMO.

For math, if you are doing 1a/1b then yes, get the Beyond manual. Carrie's hands on math activities are excellent and very applicable to the lessons. Also, if you are planning to do the ER series for reading, you will need the schedule in the back of the Beyond guide as well. No other teachers guides are needed. The HOD website offers everything you need to use their guides effectively. If they don't offer it, then you probably don't need it.

We have been very happy with LHFHG and Beyond. I hope you enjoy it as much as we have.

I would echo what the PP said about the Little Pilgrims teacher's guide and getting the Beyond guide for math activities. Emerging Readers - if your son reads at a roughly 2nd grade level you might want to start that about halfway through, the books are longer and more challenging. There are discussion questions and the reading plan in the Beyond guide. There are also spelling lists and plans if you want to add in spelling.

Thanks, Ladies. Your help is appreciated. So to clarify, should I or should I not order the Singapore textbooks? If I use the Beyond guide, do I not need them?
Also, will ordering the LH guide before the reprint be bad in terms of wanting to resell it later, especially because of the changes being made for the kindergarten math?
Thanks.

If you use the Beyond Manual for math you do not need the textbooks, just the workbooks. I can't speak to resell value. I am saving my guides for my next set of kids :D .

I just read on another thread that LHFHG will go to press in about a month and will be available about three weeks after that. So, it looks like the newer guide will be ready in time for fall :D .
