Thanks for taking the time to help me in this. After checking the chart I think my girls who are 10, and almost 12, would fit really well into the Creation to Christ curriculum. We have been on a crazy adventure this last year so they are behind in grammar/English, and math. But Im pretty familiar with Rod and Staff (I use their math) so I think they would both fit into the R&S grammar book. As for my boy who is 14, I just don't know if he would fit, and honestly I doubt we could afford 2 of these programs. He is going into 9th grade, pre-algebra (Im thinking of doing teaching textbooks, any thoughts are welcome) he is also behind on grammar/English....youd think writing was a painful experience for him. His reading is great, he spent a lot of time reading....20,000 leagues under the sea, Sherlock holmes, Lord of the Rings...and so on. Any thoughts on high school curriculum are welcome.
Our adventure this year, incase your wondering sounds like this....sold our house last summer, bought a 5th wheel, traveled alittle in the eastern states....flew to Germany to visit family there for 2 months, came back and traveled home. So unfortunately, while we visually saw and learned a lot of history in Germany and Holland, grammar was lost....their German improved though. They also had the opportunities to attend public school with one of their a cousins for English class.
Thanks for your advise
Carol
Thanks for getting back to me here, Carol!

What an interesting year you have had! I bet it was quite an adventure, but you are getting ready to get back to a more predictable school day. HOD will help with that beautifully!

We do 3 guides at our home, and I work part time and have a dh that travels overnight often. My life works because of HOD! I love that it is open and go, and that we are learning so much. It really is such a blessing, and I think it will be for you and your family too.
It sounds like your 10 and 12 yo dc will fit well in CTC. If you have specific question about LA and math for them, be sure to ask and we'll be glad to help! As far as your 14 yo, I have a few questions. Has he done a formal literature program, and if so, what? Has he done a formal writing program, and if so, what? What has he done for grammar in the past? Has he read his own history, science, etc., and how well does he work independently following multi-step directions? One last question - how many times a day would you say he is used to writing for his homeschooling? Your answers will really help me suggest a placement that will fit well for him.
I know you mentioned economizing when thinking of doing 2 programs. I have some ideas for that already!

From what you have shared so far, your 14 yo ds could do "Drawn into the Heart of Reading" along with his 10 and 12 yo siblings. He would do Level 6/7/8 along with high school level books. This would count for a portion of his high school English credit. Doing DITHOR along with R & S English (I'll suggest a level when you get back to me about what he has done), along with doing "Write with the Best I" with his siblings in CTC (depending on what he has done before for lit, I think this would work well). DITHOR 6/7/8, R & S English, and WWTB I would all work together for him to earn 1 English credit.
For math for Pre-Algebra, you could definitely have him do Teaching Textbooks. Or, you could probably move him along a little more quickly (as well as spend less money on math and have more to put toward the right HOD curriculum for him) by using Rick Fisher's Pre-Algebra and DVD. It is super inexpensive, Rick is an excellent teacher and his DVD presentations are so clear, and ds would finish it fairly quickly and be on to doing Algebra I.

There are some errors in the answer key, but I think the rest of it is so good it would be worth it.
For history, I'd look at the placement chart, but I am thinking possibly RevtoRev? This would work well for several reasons - provided ds places well there.

Ds could do this layout for counting history credits in high school and have all the history credits he needs...
9th grade: RevtoRev (Half of American History)
10th grade: MTMM (other half of American History)
11th grade: World Geography
12th grade: World History
For science, RevtoRev has an advanced science kit option for "Exploration Education" he could use to count a credit for physical science with a lab. The following year, in MTMM we have easy options for him to beef up the chemistry to high school level.
Here are a few links that may help...

I think that this would be an economical way to go, as you would be able to use some of the resources in CTC with all 3 dc. You could choose the Basic or the Extension package for your ds in RevtoRev rather than both, and you'd have all of his needed credits covered so nicely.

He also would have a great path through the rest of his high school years with HOD, and you could use 99% of what you got for him with your other 2 dc coming up through HOD.
HOD will work with you on a payment plan if you would like. Just give Mike a call! But, now I am wondering after you reading all of this what your thoughts are, and what your answers are to some of my questions? I'll check back as I'm able, but just know - we'll work through this together until you are set!
In Christ,
Julie
