LHFHG for 7 year old...compared to public school

Post by lifesoblessed » Mon May 13, 2013 6:25 pm

Hello Everyone,
I have posted here before as Bijou, but had to restart my account as I could no longer log in for some reason on my other one. So I changed my user name. Anyway, I'm pretty sure I've decided to place my dd in LHFHG in the fall as I think it will be the best fit for her. However, I was wondering how many of you have used this guide for a 7 year old and how she'll measure up to public school kids after using this guide. I know I shouldn't compare the two, but I just want to make sure she won't be behind. She will turn 7 in November so will actually start the guide as a 6 year old. Thanks ladies!

Jodi

I wouldn't worry so much about how the curriculum would compare to a public school. Did you look at where your daughter's skills fall on the placement charts? If you are going to use Singapore 1st for math, and then something for phonics/reading, I'm sure she'll be great. You can choose the 1st grade options for LHFHG, but your daughter may also fit into Beyond. The most important thing, IMHO, is to find the right program for your child that fits their needs.

I don't have any words of wisdom, but will be doing LHFHG with my 6 year old in the Fall. He will turn 7 in December. This year he did the K options. and next year he will do the 1st grade options and also do the right side of Beyond minus the copy work. I love that I can tailor the language arts and math to his level (which is advanced I believe). I also personally feel that anything besides reading, math, and handwriting are just extras. But..I am excited to give him a little more next year. I too wouldn't worry so much about comparing...we all want our kids to measure up academically, but if you are doing math and reading at her level, and giving all the love that only you can give, then she will be more than fine. HTH!

HI Jodi! :D Your 6 turning 7 yo will be just fine doing LHFHG! Carrie has her teacher's degree and her master's degree to be a principal, and she was on many curriculum committees, usually designed to research how best to meet state standards. :D So making sure guides are 'enough' is near and dear to her heart. :D :D :D If 6 turning 7 yo dd your does all of LHFHG, she'll be great! She'll also be on pacing to graduate high school easily having finished all of the HOD guides - if we want to look really far ahead. :D HTH! :D

In Christ,
Julie
