Q for ordering re: Bigger hearts

Hopefully, this will be quick question and it'll make sense...

I have your catalog in front of me...when ordering for Bigger Hearts (p37), if I order the emerging readers in step 3 for my 7 yr old to read and the extension package in step 7 for my 9 yr old to read, do I still need to order the deluxe package with even more readers? Or are those for ME to read to them? :)

Also, if I use the included Rod and Staff grammar/English (Preparing to Build) for my 7yr old/2nd grader in the fall, are there any other included phonics for my soon-to-be-fourth grader?

Thank you.

Beth

The deluxe package books are for story time in Bigger that you read aloud to them. Carrie has it out-lined in Bigger to do a book for each genre over 20 days. For example, during the first 20 days of the program you would read a book aloud that is from the biography genre. So if you choose the classic deluxe set the book would be Ben and Me, which is a very funny book that my kids loved. :D You only need ONE deluxe package though for story time in Bigger; so you would choose either the classic set, boy set, OR girl set.

The extension books are for your 4th grader to read on their own for more advanced independent reading. The schedule for them is in the Bigger appendix. Carrie has the books scheduled to coordinate with topics being studied for each week in the program. My 9 year old did enjoy reading these extension books for extra reading.

I have not ever seen phonics for 4th grade. Phonics usually are completed by the end of 2nd grade. Some spelling program though do incorporate phonics into the spelling work for grades past grade 2.

I hope this is helpful!

If you were wondering the grammar in Bigger, R&S 2 is the only one scheduled. You can easily add whatever level your older child needs, and do one lesson a day.
The vocabulary included in the guide and the spelling list/dictation passage could work with more than one level, and is in addition to the level of English your child needs. Hope this helps some.
Happy schooling! Bigger is a favorite of my older son - he is nearing the end of it now.
