I am wondering what tests most of you ladies use. The three main ones are the Stanford, the Iowa and the CAT.
Carrie I would welcome your input as well. Thanks.

We do the Woodcock-Johnson. It's mostly oral and great for Charlotte Mason homeschoolers!

I am pretty sure Carrie and Julie have stated that they use the Iowa. I used the Iowa one year with my dd. With my ds I have used the CAT-E every year. This year I am going to try the Stanford.

I have a question .... how to administer a CAT test to a struggling reader ? My son is 9 and doing Bigger and has a reading level of mid 2nd grade and not sure how to test him with the CAT if I can not read the questions to him . I am sure he knows his material and would hate for his scores to reflect poorly just because of his reading level not matching . Any suggestions?

Diane,

The ladies are doing a terrific job of answering you, and I'd love anyone whose given a standardized test to chime in and share here too! :D We have given the Iowa Basics to our sons for all of their years at home, however during my public school teaching days we gave the Stanford test to our students (so I'm familiar with that one as well). This year I am giving the CAT, simply due to time constraints, and because I've done the Iowa Basics so many other years. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

This is the first year we decided to test our oldest two kiddos (9&6yo). I chose to use the Iowa tests since I was familiar with those during my teaching days years ago. We just received their results last week and I was VERY pleased...We've used HOD the past 4 years. :)
