Hello everyone! This is my first time on HoD board. I am very excited to be here investigating HoD for my children. My boys, who are in fifth and second grade, have Sensory Processing Disorder and some learning challenges as a result. Years ago I visted the HoD booth at a book fair and while looking longingly at the curriculum, told the lovely gentleman at the booth that HoD would not work for my boys who never sat still. After years of therapy I think HoD would be a great fit for them. :D

However, I have an engineer for a hubby who would really like me to pick one curriculum and stick with it from here on out. We've used a variety of things over the years. So now as I look at the HoD stuff and read through all the boards I am trying to see how it will fit us. My hubby wants to know how it will work for high school and credit.

This is what we are considering. We are undecided about HoD for next year. We have just started American History and plan to do it through next year. We are just using books from the library. We are looking at CtC for my oldest's 7th grade year as I think my youngest will be able to handle it then from what I read in the catalog descriptions. That would led to RtR for 8th, Rev to Rev for 9th, and MtMM for 10th. (Geography would then be 11th.) My hubby is looking at graduation requirements and wondering if Rev to Rev and MtMM would count for World, U.S. History and Economics credit. Is that possible? I see from the catalog that one-year World and U.S. History might also be on the horizon. How would that fit into the picture? We are also trying to look at how would this affect our youngest who will be in 9th when our oldest is in 12th.

We are also wondering how intense the read alouds are as we have a very, very active one-year-old running around. (This is why we are thinking of waiting one more year to start HoD until she's easier to occupy.)

I probably have more questions, but this is a good start. Thanks!

I'm also considering doing Bigger next year, which would fit my younger son best. At that rate, it would put RtR in 9th for my oldest and so on. Would I be able to count RtR as a World History credit, Rev to Rev and MtMM as 2 American History credits and a Economics credit, then do World Geography and fit in Government in there somewhere?

If I go with that plan, I would be doing the extension packs for my oldest to make it more his level, correct? How does that correspond with DITHOR? Do you do both the extension packs and the DITHOR books? With Bigger for my youngest, do you do the emerging reader pack or the DITHOR plan or both? I'm reading and re-reading everything constantly to make sense of it all.

Wish HOD was coming to Teach Them Diligently in Nashville! TIA!

Don't know how to do the cool signature thing yet, but...

My kids are young so I can't really answer your questions. However, if you check out the thread " Beefing up for Jr./Sr. high" at the top of the main board, you will find some answers to your questions until others with more experience can chime in. Welcome to HOD!

You are right on track. Your oldest would do the HS world history guide in 12th. Your younger son would do that guide as a 9th grader and then progress to the new HOD guides (not completed yet, but coming)--American history one with government and American history 2 with economics. Since your oldest son will not get to these two guides, you would add government (I liked A Noble Experiment) to REV2REV and add economics (I plan on using Economics in a box. Carrie has other suggestions on the post beefing up guides.) to MTMM. My daughter is on the same path that your oldest son would be. She is currently doing REV2REV as a 9th grader with government and modifications.

I am just getting started with HOD, but I am planning to do just as you suggested: RevtoRev with my 9th grader, so he would do MTMM in 10th etc.. My 7th grader is going to do CtC, so she will be on the same track. So I think your plan is a good one!

I WAS planning to do government with MTMM and Economics with the World History program (that isn't written yet, but I'm praying it will be by then). :) I'm wondering if I should rearrange my plan. I guess it makes sense to put government into RevtoRev since we won't get to do the American History guides. I see that Whatever happened to Penny Candy and Common Sense Business for Kids are in MTMM and I see it might make sense to extend that into an economics credit. Thank you, 8arrows for sharing.

My 11 yo and 9 yo still can't sit still, but I think HOD will still work for them. :D
