Another Preparing Question :-)

When adding the older child extension, should their be additional reading beyond the history and science readings? And if so, is that where DITHOR comes in?

Also, is the integrated language arts (copywork, dictation etc...) enough for my 11yo if I add in Language Lessons for the Secondary Child? Or would I need to "beef it up" for him?

Warmly,

I haven't used it yet, but based on my experience with the other programs I would say just adding "language lessons" would be enough. We use that as our language arts program along with the integrated stuff (we use Bigger) and I also use Ignite your writing.

As for how I'm reading your DITHOR question, yes, these books for that portion of the lessons would be an additional book, not one that's assigned as one of the history or science readers.

Angela,

Darci did a great job of answering your questions, so I"ll just pop-in to agree!

DITHR does give you the higher level of literature study needed for your 11 year old's reading instruction. By adding in Secondary Language Lessons, you should have your bases covered language arts-wise (as the writing lessons, dictations, and copywork should be enough).

If you felt you needed more writing, you could always add in Igniting Your Writing Vol. I, as Darci mentioned!

Blessings,
Carrie
