Story of the World question

Post by sted » Wed Apr 10, 2013 5:24 pm

Carrie,

I would be interested in the reason you chose the SOTW for the MMTM program. While we have used the volume 1 in the past, I know the author's point of view on Biblical issues is somewhat controversial. If you have a link I could read, that would be great. I know from past programs that you do integrate the Bible very well with most of the secular books so I'm not too concerned, just wondering.

Thanks,
Shannon

Hi Shannon! :D We are just finishing MTMM with our oldest ds Wyatt, and have truly loved our year in it together! The history resources, including both the Reading about History and the Storytime selections as well as the Biblical Worldview Study, have done an incredible job of helping my ds understand, empathize, cheer for, pray for, and ponder the people and events in this period of history. I'm glad you are going to enjoy it as well! In response to your question here, I know you asked for Carrie and she would give the far better answer, but as she is in the deepest throes of writing the World Geography guide right now, I will link you to her excellent description of why she chose the history rescources she did and each of their important parts in portraying history within MTMM at this link...

I just got all the MTMM books at the convention and I always read through the history spines in the same order that my ds will read through them. Carrie really alternates back and forth with the spines in this guide which really does allow her to fill in the biblical side of things that Story of the World leaves out with the other books. I am on week 7 of the plans and have already seen this in evidence. In the link that Julie gave make sure you read page 2 where Carrie addresses another posters concerns about SOTW.
