A question about teaching writing

This is my one fear of how I will fail my kids. I am not a writer. So my question is if I follow the guides as written will I be able to teach writing to my kids when they are older? Also will I know what is right or wrong?

Kim,
Just wanted to encourage you that HOD writing & grammar is solid teaching and will be plenty. I too am writing challenged and have older kiddos that I struggled to teach writing. It is only with God's guidance that they both graduated and are attending college with majors in English. God sure has humor because my college degree & joy is math & science.
I am teaching CTC and love the language arts-Rod& Staff, dictation, Write with the Best, written narration, & poetry reading. The skills my son has learned are advanced from what I did with my older kiddos. In looking ahead it is advanced & balanced. The directions are clear & my son is completing it successfully.
When my older kiddos were in high school I felt inadequate but God equipped me in my weakness. My dd were even given an opportunity to be an English tutor to college students while in high school. They were taking college classes while in high school.
This board has so many lovely ladies that if you aren't sure of something they will gladly help. Enjoy your kiddos & this great opportunity.

Thank you so much Tammy. My oldest is a writer but honestly it had NOTHING to do with my teaching. My next two I failed in that area. I think my daughter could have been a great writer but not as motivated as my oldest son so didn't move forward like he did. I don't want that to happen with the younger two.
Thanks so much for the encouragement. If I get there and feel lost I will just come here for help and encouragement.

Hi there! I am a writer and my background is teaching writing and literature to junior high kids (Middle Grades Education Major in English). I just wanted to say how impressed I have been even early on with the writing and grammar instruction given within the HOD guides. It is also very easy to teach if done as instructed and I don't feel like I have to supplement at all.

I too am not a writer. We are currently using Preparing and enjoying the creative writing lessons. My dc are doing so much better than I thought they would. I took a peek online of the curriculum chosen for creative writing next year and I am super excited to start it. It looks like it is explained well and tell very incrementally. I think my kids are going to love it. So, yes, I think you will be fine.
