I was wondering if any of you lovely ladies had some tips on how you do the Research Box with your Preparing and Creation to Christ children? I am finding that going to Wikpedia works best for us, however, there is sooooo much information there that my dc get frustrated finding what they need. I try to read through it and pick out the important paragraphs where they can find the information but that is time-consuming for me as well. Of course if the page is short my dc are able to do this on their own. So I guess my question is mainly for the long and overly informative wikpedia pages.

Thanks for your help!

I did it in increments. There were a few that had oodles of info, so I asked dd questions about what she was looking for. Then I had her scroll through for an overview, looking at headers, then going back and finding the era for example, and moving on from that. So I showed her a lot of step by step tidbit to look for until she could scan on her own.

I have an old Encyclopedia set (my folks bought it new when I was in school) and we used that at first. The computer generated searches was sometimes giving too much information. I liked that they were getting hands-on book search skills and with the encyclopedia we would have less material to wade through and could summarize better. My oldest can now do that himself using Wiki, but the encyclopedia was a great training ground. Check out Craigslist or garage sales/book fairs for a used set.
