Bible for Beyond...

Post by MidwestMama » Mon Jun 02, 2008 3:21 pm

In the "Emerging Readers" package for Beyond LHFHG, it gives a choice of two Bibles. DS already has a couple of "story" Bibles on his reading level, so I'd really rather not buy him another just along the same lines. (The next one I get him will be a "big boy" chapter and verse Bible, as he puts it.) In the schedule, do they give "general" story topics and are the readings pretty generic... i.e., creation, Noah's Ark, Birth of Jesus, etc., that I could find in most story Bibles?? In other words, could I substitute one I have and find most of the same stories for the reading assignments?

Hope that made a *little* sense.... :)

Yes you will be able to use a different Bible. The bibles in the packs were chosen for their controlled vocabulary. I understansd about not wanting to purchase another one. We happen to have the Beginner's bible but it is an older version. The page numbers don't match up but I have been able to figure out the stories easily.

I think I'd still go with one of the 2 Bibles suggested. The pages are all mapped out in the Appendix. There are discussion questions specifically chosen to match the Bible portion read, and they were chosen carefully using Bloom's Taxonomy (application, sythesis, knowledge, etc.). Many story Bibles tell different stories, or tell different parts of the stories. I think we can't ever have too many (story) Bibles on hand. When I think how many books I buy that aren't story Bibles, I think one more story Bible is probably still a good thing. :o Also, if you buy the whole Emerging Reader's package, the savings built into it give you more than half off of the price of the Bible anyway. Even if you don't buy the package, it's still wonderful to have the matching Bible - but that's just my thought on it - you should do what you think is best! 8)
