I posted earlier asking where to put my (to be) 6 yr old based on the fact that she is working through First Language Lessons 3, narrating and doing copywork from Writing with Ease 1 and 2, and doing Singapore 2A/2B this year. She also narrates all the readings from STOW 2. Many recommended Bigger and some recommended Beyond. I was leaning toward Bigger.
I also have a (to be) 4 yr old and was thinking of placing him in Little Hearts for His Glory. He can read Bob books and can trace letters. He listens to chapter books (in fact, he loves those Burgess books) like Heidi and Boxcar Children, longer books like all the Peter Rabbit stories (in a row!). We've already read all the Sonlight books from Cores 3/4 (preschool) to Core A with him (without doing the actual curriculum). I am not concerned about him sitting through the readings, especially since they are short. I am wondering, though, if I might be able to combine DD with DS so that I only have to purchase one level of HOD. I was thinking I would still do math at her level, read her STOW 3 on the side (she loves it), let her read whatever novels from various lists here, and continue in the Language Arts we have chosen. I know that would make me not a HOD purist. Thoughts on placing a very advanced 6 yr old in LHFHG? Or should I stick to my initial plan of LHFHG for DS (4) and BHFHG for DD (6).
Thanks. I appreciate everyone's wisdom.

LHFHG has extra reading supplements listed in the appendix. I think for formal school LHFHG would be great to combine an advanced 6 and 4yo in! You could always get in extra not with school. That's what we do. My 6yo isnt' quite as advanced as yours, but she's definitely moved past where I would place her in LHFHG, but we are still doing it because we are in unit 18 and I'm trying to spread her and my 8yo out a bit more. I had them combined, but split them when my 8yo just took off and my 6yo (they were then 6 and 4) was not nearly to the same level. She is loving it, yet still expanding her knowledge base outside of school. She's really able to get the deeper concepts from the history/Bible readings and is asking some really great questions.
I would definitely combine them in LHFHG, enjoy a really short school day right now, and supplement them with other readers throughout the day. I think they'd love it.
Are you planning on doing a standard school year or are you planning on schooling year round? If you are planning on schooling year round, then you'll advance through the guides pretty quickly.

Not sure. I have been thinking of doing 4 day weeks. We'll see. My friend says the 5 days are tied to one theme, so it would probably drive me nuts to split that. If we do 4 days, we'd stretch one level over the summer and end up schooling year-round.MomtoJGJE wrote: Are you planning on doing a standard school year or are you planning on schooling year round?
