A Lantern in Her Hand

Post by Tiffini » Tue Mar 05, 2013 2:46 pm

This is the first book on Carrie's list recommended for girls for Lit in the Geography Guide. I wanted to get a jump on things and decided to start reading the Lit books as I have time - which I rarely have! I started this book (they had it at my library) - and I made the time to finish it! :D I had never heard of this author before and didn't know what to expect. I loved the story and stayed up late reading it! There is much within the story to discuss with my daughter. I see it bringing up many beneficial conversations as she narrates from it. Just wanted to say, THANKS AGAIN, for all the time and effort you put into picking out the best of the best. What a blessing!!

Hahaha! Tiffini, I am almost done with that book as well :D It is a great book. My oldest daughter is reading I Dared to call Him Father, and she can't put it down. I told her we would have to read the books first so that her brother and sister who need them for school won't have to fight us for them!!! These are great books and I am so excited about doing this guide! My almost 21 yo daughter wants to do it with them since she didn't get to use it!! What a blessing HOD is to so many of us. Even to our kids who are no longer in school!!!

Tiffini,

I loved this book so much! I'm so glad that you are enjoying it too. :D I actually cried though many parts (reading it now as a more mature woman looking back gave me a different perspective then when I read it as a teen many years ago). :D

I agree that it is full of wonderful topics that will come out during narrations that will lead to terrific discussions. :D I am so glad to be able to choose these types of amazing books for our daughters and sons to read as a part of their education. Having BJU as our main spine, allows us the freedom to choose books that don't readily show up on other classic lists (because the pressure is off to select from an accepted set of classic titles). What a blessing to have the combination of BJU and real books to give our kiddos a rich, reflective, reading experience. It allows us to savor the best of both literary study and a CM-style education. :D

Thanks for sharing! My eyes are misting over at the thought of "The Lady of the Lea" even now!

Blessings,
Carrie
