Hi, My daughter (13) just started Res. to Rev. a few weeks ago and I am following all the suggested resources except math(which i wont switch) and English. English is my problem. She has been doing Analytical Grammar since the beginning of the year and is on Unit 7 in the first year. She works very slowly as she doesn't like grammar. However, she is getting an A average. I was thinking of switching her to Rod and Staff but she doesn't like Rod and Staff from using it a few year ago. What are we missing by not using Rod and Staff? Should I just insist that we are going to switch? I really like Rod and Staff. My oldest daugther did Analytical Grammar all three seasons and did great on the PSAT so I think it is good, too. Does anyone have any input on this?
Thanks in advance
pam

Pam, I know nothing about Analytical Grammar, so I can't make a comparision...but we love R&S. When you tried it in the past, did you follow HOD's recommendation of completing most of the lesson orally and then assigning a small amount written? We used a different program for the first 3 years of HOD, but decided to transition to R&S this year. It has made a huge difference in attitude about grammar (mine and son's :D).

I am not very familiar with Analytical Grammar. Does it have the writing assignments that Rod and Staff has? I know most grammar programs do not. That might be what you are missing by not doing Rod and Staff. Carrie balances the writing program with the writing lessons in Rod and Staff. If she knows that Rod and Staff has thoroughly covered something then she will skip that lesson in the writing program.
