Narration Praise!

Post by lissiejo » Tue Jan 29, 2013 11:38 am

My daughter is on the young end of the guide in Bigger. She has done beautifully with everything up until now except narrations. She would typically say two sentences and have a hard time remembering unless it was the very last sentence I read. It was almost like she hadn't listened to anything, but I knew she had because she would talk to me about it later. I know she is young, but I was becoming frustrated that I hadn't seen any progress with this particular skill in 17 units...

UNTIL TODAY!!!!

We have been away from HOD for about 6 weeks because I had emergency surgery over Christmas. This is our first week back since early in December. When we got to narrating in unit 18 about Robert Fulton and the Steamboat she gave me a beautiful, long narration which told me she fully grasped the concept. I am so thankful that I kept pressing on with this skill because something finally clicked and I think it will only get better!

Wonderful news. My DD who is at about the same point in BHFHG is coming into her own with the narrations as well. Isn't it just a joy to see the growth in them.

Awesome! Congratulations for pressing on even when it was tough. It's so wonderful to see those breakthroughs! :D

Congratulations on your dd's excellent progress in narration! :D It seems like it would be an easy skill, but it is actually very difficult to do. You must rely 100% on what you remember, as opposed to multiple choice, fill-in-the-blanks, type worksheets which automatically give many "helps" - or which could just be guessed correctly. I have learned to love, love, love narration, though I admit I must remind myself constantly to be patient (not my strong suit). :D You have done a great job of being diligent in teaching this skill to your dd, and in being patient with her while encouraging her to do her best, and now, it is paying off! :D On a side note, I pray you have recovered well from your surgery. These unplanned health concerns are always somewhat of a surprise! Especially for busy homeschool mamas. Hope you are feeling better and on the road to recovery! :D

Thank you very much Julie :) I'm doing well. God has been so good! He has shown His grace to me this Christmas. It is SO incredibly good to be back to HOD again!
