Okay...math question!

So I'm new, researching Little Hands for my soon-to-be-four-year-old and Beyond for my almost-six. I have a question about the Singapore Math used with Beyond. Now, I know that I can use whatever I want for math, but it would just make it easier to open and go, which appeals to me.

My daughter is doing extremely well this year in Christian Light Education Math 1. The program is spiral and yet still moves slow enough for her to get a great handle on the information. It also presents it in several ways so she can always think of ways to figure things out if she doesn't already know it. Basically, I love the program. But not enough to not consider changing to Singapore if it makes my day easier...and more importantly, shorter.

After all that, my question is this: can you come into a tricky program like Singapore at the 2nd grade level? Or would I be better off staying with CLE at this point?

Thanks, ladies! The more I browse the forums here the easier my curriculum choices get. I appreciate your time :D

I think you can easily come into Singapore at that point. You might want to have her take the placement test first though to see where she would place in Singapore. They don't necessarily cover things in the same order or way as other math programs. One thing to consider too is that Singapore tends to be 1/2 to 1 year advanced in comparison to many other programs so often times dc will place lower in Singapore than other programs. If you dd is just 6 and is going to be in Beyond, 1A might be the best place to start (assuming she doesn't place higher). The hands on activities written in Beyond go with 1A and 1B. Here is a link to the Singapore placement test: http://www.singaporemath.com/Placement_Test_s/86.htm Hope that helps. We've been using Singapore for quite a few years now and I'm a big fan. I think it is a great math program that is quick and effective. :D
