This school year has been a little crazy!! I started a full time over- night job this fall. Still trying to homeschool my youngest two. My 10 year old is in a geography program this year. Its been going well but he says why can't I do fun things like my sister  My 8 year old is doing beyond which is perfect for her and we are having so much fun!!!! My question is now that my son wants to do hod next year will he be too old for Bigger, which is the perfect placement for my daughter???

Since I didn't get any responses here I posted on the facebook page and people think I should move my son up a level or two. Or if I decide to put him in bigger I would have to beef it up alot. If I did that what would I use or do you think it would just be easier to just start him in his own guide????

My ds is also going to be 11 and going into 6th grade. We have homeschooled for 2 years and only used HOD. I started my ds in Bigger when he was 9 and in 4th grade. I found it to be an ok fit for that year. But to be honest, I don't think I'd want to use it for a 6th grader (though I'm sure people have). The best advice I could give, is to make a copy of the placement chart and see exactly where your ds falls for placement. Then place him in that guide (and if it is Bigger, that's great, but if it is Preparing or CTC, well, you will know that too). You want your ds to have just the right level of challenge. There are alot of great activities in every level, so no matter where he places, he will have wonderful projects and activities to do!

Bigger should have extension ideas written in for a 4th/5th grader. That would be a good place to start, if you're needing to beef it up. Honestly, though, I also feel it might be easiest for you to separate them and place your son in a guide that fits him as perfectly as Bigger will your daughter.

My ds9 did Adventures with MFW last year for 2nd grade and is now doing Bigger for 3rd. It has been a great fit for him. I wouldn't suggest Bigger after ECC. Have you looked at the placement chart for writing and reading levels ?
