Loving LHFHG but questions

My DS and I started this week and we love it! It is even better than I hoped. Due to some hard issues we have been through with this little guy, I can't begin to say what a blessing it is to be having these kinds of interactions with him. He loves to learn but wow this is great!
For history, do we do the suggested activities in Little Pilgrims? Like the timeline at the end of the first section?
For math, we are doing other things but I think the hands on are fun and valuable. Would you suggest I just move through them, or find what we are currently working on and try to match? Or just let it go for now? I think he will be very ready for the math in Beyond next fall, even if we stay in LHFHG for the rest until we finish the guide. (I love that we can just pick it up again next year where we left off. This is giving me way more freedom than I am used to giving myself.
