Hi, I am new and I'm thinking about ordering Beyond Little Hearts and Bigger Hearts for my kids to start with in the fall.I tried to use Helpful Tips for Ordering but wanted to make sure I had everything.

For BLH I have
Economy Package
Reading Made Easy
Basic Package with Math 1A & 1B
Deluxe Package - Classic Set

and for BH I have
Economy Package
Science Adder
Drawn Into The Heart of Reading
Student Book
Italic: Book D
Basic Package with Math 2A & 2B Workbooks

Is that what I need or is it too much.
Thanks!
500E - BHFHG - Deluxe Package - Boy Interest Set

It looks correct to me if you are planning to do everything as written in the guide!

You can always call to double check as well.

Welcome to the HOD family!

Welcome to the board! :D We're glad to have you here! :D The ladies are wonderful about helping, so before you place your order for Beyond and Bigger, if you get a chance to share with us a bit about your children's ages and a bit about how they do with reading, writing, and math, it would be great for us to talk with you a bit to be sure that this is indeed the best placement for them. :D

Placement is so important, so it can really help to talk through it with others! :D The reason I mention this is that we typically don't advise for students to be placed in back-to-back guides, because often students who are that close can be combined. It doesn't always work out that way though, so it is possible that your placement is correct.

We look forward to hearing more about your kiddos! :D

Blessings,
Carrie

I have an 8 yr old that is in 2nd grade. He is really good at reading and writing, cursive included but not so well in math and spelling.

My 6yr old is in K. The curriculum we use now (not sure if I can say what it is) is really big on phonics and he is doing ok with that. He has been reading short words and able to read short sentences by sounding out each letter. He writes really good and we are just learning some basics with math. Reading the clock to 0'clock, adding by 1's to 5, counting to 60...

So they are both at really different levels.

Thanks for your replies!

Angela,

Thanks so much for sharing a bit more about your kiddos. :D To help us advise you even better, I wanted to clarify that you are thinking of using this in the fall when your kiddos are in their next grade level? So, would your younger one be a first grader and your older one a third grader then? :D When are their birthdays, so when does your 6 year old turn 7? When does your 8 year old turn 9?

I'm also wondering if your 6 year old is able to copy a sentence or two at a time or if it is more words that he/she is copying? Is he ready for spelling lists, yet? Also, has your little one had anything in the way of history or science yet? Is he/she a pretty wiggly little person or more a sit and listen type of person?

As far as your older one goes, can you share a couple of book titles that your older one is currently reading on his/her own? Can he/she copy several sentences at a time? How does he/she do following written directions? Is your older child an independent sort of child, or does he/she still prefer to do everything with you? :D

If you get a chance to pop back and share that would be great!

Blessings,
Carrie

Yes will be using it for the fall for 1st and 3rd grade. My youngest son will turn 7 in Nov and my oldest son will turn 9 in Oct.
My 6 yr old is just copying words right now, but by the end of K, he will probably be copying more I am sure. No history or science yet. And he is a very wiggly person! lol

I do still have all of the books that my oldest read when he was in 1st grade and what he is reading now so I could use those instead of buying more. I didn't think about that.

My oldest can copy several sentences. He mostly prefers to do everything with me unless it is copying spelling words or some math worksheets. He still doesn't do very good with written directions. He can read it, I can read it to him and he still asks questions or still gets it wrong sometimes. But if I can sit beside of him and tell him what he needs to do with a problem or worksheet, he does better. It is something we are working on with him following directions.

I think that is it. :D

Thanks so much for popping back to share a bit more! :D It helps so much to have a bit more information when trying to figure out the best placement. With what you've shared so far, I would place your 6 year old into LHFHG with the first grade options and your 8 year old in Bigger. :D

So, your order for Bigger looks about right. The only missing item I can possibly see would be the books for your older child to read along with DITHR. You may want to look at the Level 2 or Level 3 book pack for him. If you get a chance to share a couple of book titles that he is reading on his own now, we could advise you better which of these would fit him best. Link:

For your younger child, you would want the LHFHG first grade Economy Package, and the first grade Basic Package. You would also want either A Reason for Handwriting 'A' or Italic 'B', plus Reading Made Easy (or if your child has had some phonics already you might move more easily into The Reading Lesson for phonics instead), and last you'd need either The Family-Time Bible or 101 Favorite Bible Stories. If you have a pretty wiggly one, the Family-Time Bible has shorter stories.

So if I order the Level 2 or 3 book pack, I don't really need the optional Deluxe Package books then right? We have tons of books at home to read or get some from the library too.

Thanks for your responses!

The Deluxe Package books are for you to read-aloud to your child. The Level 2 or Level 3 book packs are for your child to read with DITHR. So, you do need two sets of books somehow. If you desire to use your own books for your child to read with DITHR you could definitely do that. :D
