will you share with me where they are placed for math, English, reading (DITHR), and dictation? It would REALLY help me as I am fine tuning my boys' placement this week.
THANKS!!

Hi Katrina,
My daughter is just about ready to start Preparing. She turned 9 in late November. She will be in R&S 3, Singapore 3B/4A, DITHOR 4/5. Dictation comes naturally to her and we supplement, actually, with a CM program specific to dictation and she dictates her memory verses. I hope this helps a bit.

Erin Kate,
What a treat to see you here at HOD! It's so nice to hear your "voice".
Thank-you for sharing more about her placement. That helps.

Thank you.
So sweet of you to say. It's a small home school world, isn't it? Makes me happy.

Hi Katrina and Erin!
It is so nice to hear both of your 'voices' on this thread and see you both at HOD!
My oldest is a year behind your oldest Katrina. He is doing Singapore 3A/3B and R&S 3 with Bigger. So when he reaches Preparing he will be 10 and doing R&S 4 and Singapore 4A / 4B for 4th grade (he is at the older end of the grade). His reading is advanced, but I am having him do the 4/5 pack and 2/3 Student work book with Bigger. So for Preparing it could be the same; since it is 1/2 each year. For dictation he is currently doing Level 2 with Bigger. So next year should be level 3 for Preparing; although he may reach it part way through Bigger.
I hope this helps, and that someone chimes in who is using Preparing & CTC currently!

My oldest is doing Preparing. We are on about unit 22? I can't remember, haha. Anyway, she is in English 3 and 3B right now in math. In dictation she's in level 3, dictation 8. She would be much farther along in dictation if I didn't keep forgetting it
I've had to bump her up a few times because it gets too easy.

My son is in Preparing, we are starting Unit 16 next week. He is using Teaching Textbooks Math 4 and loves it. For LA, we are towards the end of R&S 3, and doing level 2 dictation.

My 10yo DS (11 in March) is almost done with CTC (3 units left!), in Singapore 4B, dictation Level 5, R&S 4, and DITHR WB level 4/5, but books at a level 6. Keep in mind, though, that we have been doing HOD now for 4 years, so that does make a difference in their placement, IMO. Hope that helps a little bit!

My ds and dd are were both 10 last May and are doing CTC for fifth grade. We're about 1/2 way through CTC now. They are doing R&S5, the first half this year as scheduled in CTC. We just finished Singapore 6A, and we're on the last half of DITHOR level 4/5. My ds is on the last half of level 3 in dictation and my dd is in level 5. Last year in Preparing for 4th grade, we did R&S4, Singapore 5A/5B, and the first half of DITHOR level 4/5. You can see that there is a pretty big range of age and placement for la and math for these guides. The thing is to just go with what works with your dc and continue to move on from there.
