R & S English

Post by keyjoh » Tue Nov 20, 2012 2:57 pm

Has anyone here used R & S English for a few years in a row? I am currently using R & S 3 with my 4th grader and it's going well. I actually own levels 3-7 because I got them at a really great price.

I am asking because I was looking through all the books and see that they are all pretty much the same but each year goes a little more in depth. Next year I will be adding R & S 2 for my third grader and I also have another little that will be using it. I am wondering if I would just go bonkers teaching 3 different levels of the same.exact.thing and keep going back and forth between switching to Learning Language Arts through literature, which seems to cover all the parts of speech but in a gentler way. While I know this is really not about me, just the thought of going through R & S 2 next year for the second time along with level 4 is a little dreadful.

Thanks!

Ive used 2,3,4, and part of 5 now. Im doing 3 for the second time now as my second child begins the series. We skipped level 2 & started 3 now in 3rd. Im running 3&5 right now and it is perfectly fine! We do as suggested with most orally with little to no writing, and frequent use of the dry erase board! It is so painless i cant imagine using any of the other tjings out thete, and weve tried many!

I have taught through Grade 2 twice, and am currently teaching grade 3 for the second time. My kiddos are in back to back books. I haven't felt like I was going to go crazy or anything. HTH!

It doesn't bother me at all.

I've been using R&S English for five consecutive years now. I do have a two grade gap between each of my five oldest children, so I never do the same book two years in a row.
16yo DD using US History 1 for 11th grade
14yo DS using World Geography for 9th grade
13yo DS using Rev to Rev for 7th grade
10yo DD using Creation to Christ for 5th grade
8yo DD using Bigger for 3rd grade
7yo DD using Beyond Hearts for 2nd grade

It doesn't bother me either - but I remember wondering the same thing! I have now taught Levels 2, 3, and 4 twice (currently in 4 the second time), as well as Level 5 and 6 (currently in 6). I cannot imagine doing it another way now. It goes very quickly, and it is solid. So many other grammar programs seem lacking, or worse, they take forever and don't accomplish nearly as much. R & S English is a find. It's a gem. It is not flashy, but it works. You'll be ok with the repeats! Just stick to doing a good portion orally and covering the oral review questions well. It'll become your 'friend' more and more through the years instead of your 'foe.'
