I have always done all of our schooling except a few things here or there. This week dh was off for Veterans day and I did a cleaning job and then went to a doll shop with my sil. Dh did a full day of HOD with my kiddos. He told me that he really enjoyed Grandpa's box and even got a sermon idea/message from it. I told him, "See, I told you that book was so good. You should read the whole thing."
The other thing is that I just quickly went over a few things like how to do R&S English (oral review, read lesson, 2/3 orally, and 1/3 written) that morning before I left. HOD is so well planned that anyone could pick it up and teach it. Love it!!!

What a blessing! I also got a new appreciation for how open-and-go HOD is this week. A friend and I went to Costco (could only go on a week day) and her two teenage girls came to babysit (they h.s. too) They were willing to school for me and after only a few min. of direction from me I came home to a completed school day!

Hehe!
Glad your husband enjoyed it!
My mom visited and she taught my son using the guide. She asked, "do all your homeschool friends use HOD?" When I said no, she was baffled (so am I). I told her I guess a lot of people just like to pick out their own things... but really, I don't understand either... <shrug>
Hopefully, as we go up in the guides I will be able to encourage more people to look into it. I guess I don't have a lot of influence in my group because we're only doing kindergarten and preschool. But I do tell other kindergarten homeschoolers about HOD.
One of (one of..!) HOD greatest features IS how a family member or a friend can just jump in and substitute teach for me if needed. It is so easy and stressfree. I can just flow right along and actually enjoy the schooltime.

How special!

I could not agree with you more. My dad, my mom, and my babysitter (who is 21 yo), have each been able to step in and use HOD with our dc. It is an incredible blessing that on the occasion someone else needs to step in and help out, it can be done!
In Christ,
