LHFHG for K, Beyond for 1st?

Hi, another question from me, sorry! I am using Little Hearts for my 5 1/2 year old, for K. Just trying to think ahead, and it seems like the Creation to Christ - Missions to Modern Marvels sequence will be perfect for 5-8 grades, that is what I will be starting for my will be 5th grader this spring (CTC). However, if Ethan is using Little hearts now for K, if we do Beyond for 1st, etc. then it would put him at CTC for 4th grade....so do most of you do it that way if you start at the beginning, or what? I guess I could spread out what we are doing now a little more? Miles and Ethan are too far apart (4 years 4 months) that I won't be able to combine them, we do have a 2 year old, but her and Ethan are still almost 3 1/2 years apart, so I am thinking they won't be able to be together either....I hope this all made sense lol. Just wondering what most of you do. Thanks! :)

If your 5 1/2 yr old is solidly placed then you should be fine. It is almost easier to not think of grades and just look at placement and age range for the guides. He would hit CTC at age 9 1/2, which is in the age range. If your son continues to do well with the guides, I would leave it as is. As you progress you may come to a guide that you feel would be best to begin at 1/2 speed, and that would slow you down some. I am to the point where I just tell my boys what grade they are in based on what they would be in if they went to ps, and that is the only time I really think about grades. I did begin Bigger at 1/2 speed for my 7 1/2 year old, but after 11 units he was very ready to go full speed.

If the placement chart fits, do it! We've done Little Hearts for K, Beyond Little Hearts for 1st and now Bigger for 2nd. You can always slow down to half pace if needed. That is how we started Bigger this year since the workload is a pretty big jump from Beyond. I also was prepared to go half speed for as long as I needed. It turned out for us that by unit 5 she was ready for full speed, but I had planned for the whole year going half. My girls start the guides younger than your kids as well. They have summer birthdays and are at the beginning of a guide right after their birthdays.

This is happening to us as well. Right now we're using Beyond on a 4-day schedule, so that will stretch it into 2nd grade. I plan on doing Bigger on a 4-day schedule, and maybe half-pace as well. I have to keep reminding myself to stop thinking so far ahead because I get too worked up about it!
