DITHOR: which level comes after ER?

Post by Rachel » Thu Nov 08, 2012 2:57 pm

After my ds finished the ER list, he was an advanced reader in 3rd grade and so I moved him right into level 3 DITHOR books (this year he has moved on successfully to level 4 books). But he was older for his grade. Now I am teaching my dd and her friend using the ER books in 2nd grade. It is definitely a good level for my dd, and stretches the friend at times. My question is for next year- should I move the girls right into level 3 DITHOR books in 3rd grade, or would they be better with level 2? Looking at the level 2 books, how closely do they compare with the more difficult ER books? It appears that they might compare very well, so it would be okay to move up a level, but I'm looking into input from those who have used them. Another option might be to try to cover many of the level 2 books as summer reading (we have more than 2 months off), not using the workbook, and then start with level 3 books in the fall using the DITHOR 2/3 workbook.

I liked moving into the Level 2 books after completing the ERS with our 2 oldest dc. Though both were excellent readers, the progression in comprehension was nice. :D You will know best though!
