For any of you using MTMM....

One thing my hubby had my son who is using MTMM do for the oral narration day (where you type the child's narration) was to have my son record his narration on his ipod. :D My hubby told my son to include all of the key words suggested in the guide in his narration and allowed him to stop and start the recorder in order to get all the words included. It took my son quite awhile, but he really did a good job. It also was much easier to type from the recording, as the parent can pause the narration and catch up with the typing or replay as needed. :D

Anyway, I just wanted to pop-in and mention that this works well if you have a child who has been narrating for awhile. Just make sure the child isn't looking right at the book as he/she is narrating! I will admit that my son did have to look back in the book while stopping the recording to see what some of the key words noted in the guide referred to, but I didn't think this was all bad either as it drew his attention to the names and places and forced him to use them in his narration.

This is definitely a higher level narration skill, so it wouldn't be as appropriate for a younger narrator who still needs immediate parental feedback, but it would work for those who have been narrating awhile and are ready for the next step. :D We've been doing it this way ever since for the history narrations. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Carrie--by recording on the iPod, do you mean a video? Or, is there a way to just record audio? (Great idea BTW!)

I know there are apps that allow you to just record audio. I know for the Ipad there are notetaking apps that allow you to record the audio and also type. I will have to practice with these this year so we are ready for next year.

There's a voice only recording option on ipods.

I'll ask DD when she wakes up. She has a 4th generation. Is yours earlier?

Also, my ds has been using his dictionary on his Ipod to look up any unknown words. For example, in R & S English today, he used his IPod to look up the plural forms of words as finding these were part of his assignment. There were a ton of words, and the ones he couldn't orally get correct, he looked up on his IPod. The ones he couldn't find on his IPod, he got out the good old Webster dictionary to find. I thought it was a super balance of using multiple resources well! :D A thesaurus with antonyms and synonyms, as well as a "reference" option are also on his IPod. :D :D :D

In Christ,
Julie

Awesome! Thanks for all the information and ideas! I found the microphone icon under the "utilities" section on my iPod, and it works for audio recording! (don't even need an external mike!) Thanks!!
