Confused about DITHR. Just a quick question.

Hello,

I have been reading through the manual and getting prepared.

My question is are we supposed to do the same lessons and use the same student book pages 2 years in a row but just use the different level books? For example, this year we are using the level 2 books with the 2/3 student guide. Next year I would do the same 2/3 lessons from the manual but read the level 3 books instead, meaning that I use the guide for 7 years in a row for grades 2-8?

Hope that makes sense! :)

Thank you.

You use the teachers' guide for all the years. Each student book is different and requires different things. As you go up in grades the expectations are higher and different types of vocabulary work etc are included. Once you hit Preparing you won't make it through all the genres in a year. You only do DITHOR 3x's a week in all the upper guides. So you get through 4-5 genres each year. Hope that makes sense.

Yes next year you would use the same 2/3 guide and use different books. In year 4-5 you will get a new work book, and etc...

The ladies already did a super job of answering! To plot it out step by step using the HOD guides, here it is...
BHFHG: Student Book 2/3, DITHOR scheduled in plans every day 5 times a week, all 9 genres covered
PHFHG: Student Book 2/3, DITHOR scheduled in plans 3 times a week, 4-5 genres covered
CTC: Student Book 4/5, DITHOR scheduled in plans 3 times a week, 4-5 genres covered
RTR: Student Book 4/5, DITHOR scheduled in plans 3 times a week, 4-5 genres covered
RevtoRev: Student Book 6/7/8, DITHOR scheduled in plans 3 times a week, 4-5 genres covered
MTMM: Student Book 6/7/8, DITHOR scheduled in plans 3 times a week, 4-5 genres covered

Of course, this plan is set in stone. It is very flexible as students come to DITHOR at later ages sometimes, and then it is often best to start with a different level to lay a good foundation first. In any plan, any book sets or books of your own choice may be used to best fit dc's reading needs. HTH! :D

Julie

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but with this schedule you will actually have to buy 2 student books of the 2/3. Becuz you will use all of it in Bigger and then need it again in PHFHG??

Then after that you could use the 4/5 and 6/7/8 books each spread over 2 years.

Yes, that's right! :D Good thought to point that out!

P.S. Sometimes families do DITHOR just 3 days a week during BHFHG (especially if paired with an older sibling doing an older guide). Then, you would not need to buy 2 student books of the 2/3, as you'd finish it out during PHFHG. :D
