Poetry is awesome :)

Post by lissiejo » Sat Oct 06, 2012 6:56 pm

We enjoyed the poetry studies last year in Beyond and now again in Bigger. My 7-year-old daughter has now started writing her own poetry and explaining to me about the rhyming patterns and double meaning of certain phrases. I never EVER in my wildest imagination thought my daughter would be writing a book of poetry and be so excited about it! She's written 10 or 12 now and the keep getting better :) What a blessing and once again it's all because of HOD!

Lissiejo - this is so exciting for dd! :D :D :D Poetry opens a whole new world of creativity for dc. My oldest has come to LOVE poetry, though at first it was difficult for him to write. My middle ds loved it right away, and now in PHFHG, is simply ecstatic about getting to write his own! I am so glad your dd is enjoying the poetry and trying her hand at writing it herself. Perhaps we will be reading her poetry some day and enjoying it immensely!!! God gives talents to all, and this could be hers. How neat you are encouraging her to run with it, and I can vouch for HOD helping dc to cultivate a love for it through all the years (even those dc who are quite sure poetry will not be their thing  )! :D

How neat that your dd is really getting into the poetry. My dc have loved all of the poetry as well. I love how each year Carrie does something different with it. They start out mostly just enjoying it and learning a little bit about, then they learn some of the techniques and literary devices through it. Then in Preparing they are guided to start writing it themselves. I never thought my dc would be able to do this, but they thrived. Then this year in CTC, they are expressing the moods and feeling of the poetry through painting. I love that each year, poetry is included, yet each year it is different in its function. I never would have thought to include poetry on my own and even if I had included it, I would never thought of using the range of activities with it to allow to dc to grow and flourish so much. It sounds like your dd has a natural gift with poetry and is running with it. How wonderful that talent has been awakened! :D

Melissa,

This is so exciting! Thanks so much for sharing! :D

My boys have enjoyed writing poetry too after going through the poetry in Beyond, and Bigger, and especially after Preparing's poetry writing sessions. :D Who knew that they'd be inspired with poetry of all things. :D It was a joy to this mama's heart too. :D

Blessings,
Carrie
