Hi -

Our family love HOD. We used Little Hands to Heaven last year with our then 2 and 4 year olds. This year our 5 yr old is using Little Hearts for His Glory - he really likes the Bible, Science, and History lessons. Our now 3 yr old is using Little Hands to Heaven again this year and is doing a great job - she remembered a lot from last year - it is almost too easy for her - she knows all her letters and their sounds. But she still asks everyday when it will be her turn to do school - she loves to learn

With that being said I was looking ahead to next year (I'm a planner) - and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about what to do with her (she will be 4 next summer) - Does anyone recommend using Little Hearts for His Glory with a 4 yr old - I feel like that seems really young, I really like HOD and want to continue using it but as said before - we are currently using LHH and she is flying though it, wondered if anyone has encountered this before and what they used - Idea's on what to do with her next year because then I would love to use HOD again when she is 5. Thoughts??

I used it before as a pre-K program for my 4-year-old daughter at the time. We also had already been through Little Hearts and I knew it would be too easy for her. She went on to private K, but we're now fully homeschooling and back with HOD I felt like she was ready for a lot of it, but the history and science really were just over her head. I plugged through anyway, but I didn't really think she got much out of it. At the same time, we're using it again, 3 years later, and she often says, "I remember that!"

When my next daughter came along at this age (last year) I chose to use teach her phonics, use the pre-K books from Singapore (Unfortunately these aren't available anymore), A Reason for Handwriting, Bible stories, short Bible memory, and the Rod and Staff books recommended. Now that we're officially in Kindergarten this year we're using Little Hearts and it's been a good fit. I wanted to keep K-4 with the same feel of HOD and I think we accomplished that even though we didn't do an official HOD program that year.

you could go half speed for half the guide, then full speed for the second half. Then the same thing in Beyond, which would spread those guides over three years and put her roughly in the age range of the guides. If you then did the same thing with Bigger you'd get another half year extra before starting Preparing.

You could also plan something like six weeks on and three weeks off. During your three weeks off you could do unit studies. You could even base them on what you learned the previous six weeks in HOD and use the extra books listed in the appendix. My brain isn't working right now to know how much extra time that would gain you.

You have several good options here! Has she done the older Bible and devotional for LHTH? If not, then you could do "The New Bible for Little Eyes" and "MY ABC Bible Verses" with LHTH for history, and then add LHFHG K LA/math (which would be "Do It Carefully/Finding the Answers," "A Reason for HW K" or "Italic A,"Math Essentials" - see Carrie's post at top of board about this, and a phonics program - I'd recommend a slow-paced "The Reading Lesson" for a 4 yo).

Or, another option would be MomtoJGJE's pp, which she already explained so well.

I think both of these options could work well, and it just depends on what would fit dd best. If it is the first option, I am of the opinion our dc can NEVER get too much of the BIble stories, so that would work out just fine. If it is the second option, a slower pace would be important to take, not only for LHFHG, but for the guides to follow until she is at least within the target age range of the guide. HTH!
