One Small Square: Seashore Question

We are in the middle of One Small Square: Seashore science book in Bigger. We are basically going half-speed right now, so we have 9 days in the book to do yet. My dd is learning from it, but during some of the readings, I would get a little frustrated because it keeps saying to observe you square. We don't live near a seashore, so that is not possible. My daughter would enjoy that, but since we can't, do we just read the book and do the projects/experiments? I feel like we are missing something by not being at the seashore.
My dd likes to see the real stuff, but I know that is not always possible. We will be in good shape when we get to the 'woods' book. We have them all around us.
Just wondering if there is anything special we can do without going to the seashore.
