Can anyone please share with me how you make Bigger work for a 4th grader. I know I will be doing 4/5 DIHOR book. Any input/advice on how you do it would be great! I am nervous I will be "behind" a guide. Any thoughts?
thank you,
Renee

You can simply add the extensions, if you find that the guide as written is not challenging enough for your 4th grader (extensions in Bigger are for 4th and 5th graders). However, is Bigger where he placed on the placement chart?
http://www.heartofdakota.com/placing-your-child.php If so, he would not need necessarily the extensions. Otherwise, you may consider just using Preparing as written if he places there instead.

Hi there,
I am using Bigger with my 4th grader as well. We just started and it seems to be challenging enough so I plan on using the manual as written. It would depend on how advanced your 4th grader is--you could probably add the extensions, which is what I was going to do until I read through the manual and realized that it was okay as is.
Hope that helps!

We are reading most of the extensions. I added an additional science program and a few other things for him to make things a little more challenging. I own the Preparing guide, so we do level 3 dictations. I just started writing about our Bigger journey on my blog (in my signature.) You can see what we added there. He'll be 10 in next month. Despite adding in the extras, we are still completing our work in about 4 hours. I thought I had overdone it, but it's working great. So far he is really loving it

I'm another one who will use Bigger with a 4th grader. My ds is 9 and will be 10 in Jan. I don't plan on adding to it. I feel it's enough for him. I'm excited for both of us, Bigger looks really fun.

This is my first year with HOD and we are using Bigger with my 9 year old/4th grader. I ordered the extensions since I heard it added a lot of interest to the program. My dd is not an advanced reader, so I am just reading the extensions as an "extra" story time book (not requiring any narrations). She is also using DITHOR (level 2/3). It is definitely "enough" for her. I guess it just depends on your child and what they need.

This is our second year with HOD. My dd 9 1/2 in 4th is on Unit 11 of Bigger and it has been plenty for her; even without the extensions. She's read a couple of them on her own, but we haven't done any of the activities.
