I've got a short list of areas that need attention for each child this year. My 13 yo needs help with comprehension. We are using CTC without extensions as his core curriculum. I think he reads comfortably on a 5/6 grade level, but I'm not positive about that.
So, what are your thoughts on what we can do to help him develop his comprehension skills?

Re: Developing 13 yos comprehension skills
I use a conversation style narration with my 13 year old.
It's very much leading her down the garden path. Wow I loved it when the boy jumped in the pool. What did you love about the boy?
I also have found listening to books has been shown to really help her get it, as she has less to process and can listen again if she needs to.

Re: Developing 13 yos comprehension skills
Narration has been the most helpful thing for developing my 12 yo's comprehension skills. I think that focusing on helping him better his oral narrations and written narrations this year would be a great way to develop comprehension skills. Here are a few links to some great helps on this topic...

Re: Developing 13 yos comprehension skills
I will be starting my first FULL year of homeschooling on Monday using BHFHG & DITHOR.
My daughter struggles with comprehension as well (9yo). This board has been an awesome resource! I was wondering, though, are we supposed to write our children's oral narrations like Julie did?
