LHTH Bible Question

I purchased The New Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes from someone and it never showed up. I really don't have the funds to purchase an other one. So, would reading from the Bible be just as effective as the book or should I find some way to purchase an other book? Thanks for the input.

Thank you for this. Yes, I did use PayPal, but if she truely sent it to me and it got lost on the way here, I wouldn't feel right about taking the money back from her.

How old is the child? Do you have another children's Bible available? If so, which one(s) do you have?

He will be 5 in Nov. and I have The Beginner's Bible and the Family Time Bible.

Do you already read and does he comprehend The Beginner's Bible (or the other one)? Does he like that Bible? I started LHTH with my oldest when she turned 5, and I personally found the Bible recommended in LHTH to be a little young for my 5 yo. Though she was probably ready for LHFHG at that point (as for reading comprehension at least). But, she had already been reading The Beginner's Bible for a year at that point, and she loves her Beginner's Bible and still does. I think one of the two children's Bibles you have will suffice as long as he can understand it. And then you could fill in with your Bible if one of the stories listed in LHTH is not in one of those Bibles. Just keep in mind that The Family-Time Bible is used in LHFHG unless you opt for the 101 Favorite Bible Stories when you go with LHFHG (which is what we are using).

Hope that helps a little!

Thanks mommybelle, that does help. Doesn't The Beginner's Bible go with one of the HOD guides also? Do you mind me asking why you picked 101 Favorite Bible Stories? Thanks!

The Beginners Bible is one of the options for the emerging readers set, but I don't think it would be a big deal to go through it again. We have MULTIPLE children's Bibles in our house (Preacher's kids :)) We happened to already have the New Bible in Pictures and I really loved it, but any kids Bible will work.

lissiejo answered your first question. :D We haven't gotten to the emerging readers set yet, but I am hoping it won't matter since it will be her reading it at that point since we read The Beginner's Bible every night to her before bed. I think most people recommend the Family-Time Bible for LHFHG (which also looks great by the way). I chose 101 Favorite Stories because I was afraid she wouldn't be challenged with the other one. I pulled both Bibles up on Amazon, and I used the "Click to Look Inside" option for both Bibles. I then read Bible stories from both Bibles to her. Since she understood everything I read with the 101 Favorite Stories from the Bible, I went with that option since it is recommended for ages 6-7, and she will actually be 6 yo in October. And I was also thinking I would then buy the Family-Time Bible when my youngest goes through LHFHG so she (being the youngest) has a new school Bible of her own instead of just sister hand-me-downs. :)

Thanks Mommybelle for the response. I'll check out the 101 Story Bible.

"The New Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes" is one of our sons' favorite Bibles. I would order it from HOD - they will definitely get it to you in short order in good shape! :D If funds are a concern, maybe a grandparent could 'gift' dd with it? I can't think of a better gift. :D I would say that it is important to use one of the Bible choices or your own Bible for the plans in LHTH. Not all children's Bibles have the same stories or portions of stories, and the entire day's plan in LHTH is centered around the reading of the Bible story. Not to mention, trying to match up stories is inconvenient. If the Bible was not used every day and was not the history focus for the entire year, I'd be less inclined to encourage you to get one, but it is used every day and is the basis for the plans in LHTH. So, I'd either get one of the two Bible choices or use your own. It will be the best match for the plans! :D

In Christ,
Julie

I just wanted to pop-in and clarify for those who are reading this thread that the Bible choices in LHTH are The New Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes, A Child's First Bible, or reading directly from the grown-up Bible. :D We do definitely recommend using one of those three options. :D

The Bible choices for LHFHG are The Family-Time Bible, 101 Favorite Bible Stories, or reading directly from the grown-up Bible. :D We do definitely recommend one of those three choices. :D

The reason that we offer choices is to allow families from all walks of life and budgetary constraints to use the guides. However, it is important to use one of the 3 choices we provide for each program as these are the choices around which all of the day's plans are written. If you choose to use a different story Bible it is very possible that the story you are reading may not key in on the ideas that we are drawing forth to make connections within the lessons. This will leave both you and your child confused as to why we are having you do certain things in the plans! Different story Bibles tell stories differently. :D

Since the original poster was asking about which Bible to use with LHTH, I think we've gotten confused as to which Bible that we are recommending for which program.

The thread is actually so confusing that I considered pulling it, however I'm hoping this clarification will be of benefit to those who read this far! :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Is there any significant difference between the Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes and The New Bible In Pictures for Little Eyes? I have both. My mom used the original with me as a child so am a little partial for sentimental reasons. I just haven't dug my original out to look through them and compare.
