Water color paper?

Post by Mumkins » Thu Aug 02, 2012 7:58 pm

Now I need help finding the paper, lol. I can't seem to find 140lbs paper for less than $8 for 15 sheets. At 2 a week, that's 70 sheets. Plus some extra for mistakes and we're looking at $50 in paper, plus shipping.

I've found a 50 pack of 80lb paper for watercolor, but is that good enough? I've never done watercolors before.

(It would be great if HOD could carry a 'watercolor add on set' for CTC where the paint, paper and brushes were incl.)

Wow...decided to just get the lighter paper. Added my brushes. $46 shipping to Canada at that Miller's place and Amazon won't ship here at all:(

Ok, ditched the paper. $8.30 shipping, much better. I should try to find an art store somewhere here I think.

Do you have Michael's in Canada? I bought our watercolor paper there using a coupon. I think the paper I used was a little lighter than was recommended.

We haven't done CTC yet, but I just use white cardstock for watercolor painting. It ends up costing about $15.00 for 250 sheets in the office supply stores around here. I think I'm usually able to get 120# (or something like that!).

If you use a very wet brush, the paper will wrinkle a bit, but it really has worked just fine for us.

HTH!
Blessings,
Elisabeth

I do have a Michael's, it's about an hour and a half away. $30 in gas. Ugh. I hate living rural sometimes, lol.

I teach art. Go to Dick Blick online and select "multi media" paper. It is 90 pounds, but it works GREAT for watercolor or any medium.

My daughter just did a watercolor painting on the "multi-media" paper from Blick's, but it wrinkled. :( I found some 11 x 14 paper at Target on clearance for 1.49. It has 15 sheets each of 50 lb,72lb, and 96lb paper. The funny thing is that the 96lb sheets feel heavier than the 98lb multi-media paper from Blick's.

I like the idea of an art add-on! We'll be doing CTC next year, now I know what to start looking for. :D

We used to do Waldorf homeschooling and bought our paper here :http://www.waldorfsupplies.com/cgi-sys/ ... ting&xm=on

Hopefully I did that link thing right:). If not just go to waldorsupplies.com.

They have a few different options but if they are all good. Oh and they ship to Canada.

My DS actually preferred using half a sheet of paper to do his paintings. It made the paper last longer as a bonus. My DD prefers a full sheet. You might be able to find a better bargain on larger sheets that you could cut in half?

Are you having two kiddos doing CTC? I could be wrong but we just started CTC and I think you only need one sheet per unit. I have two doing it so we need 2 per week.

Oh yeah! I was thinking it was doing painting days meant 2 paintings. But it's one painting you work on 2 days. I am starting my 2nd child half pace after Christmas though.

I ended up with a great deal though! I got 24 pack of 21ml paints for $13.85 and 3 packs of 15 9X12 sheets for $5.50 each, plus brushes and a pallette for $36 plus $15 shipping. So, $51.

I bought my watercolor paper at Hobby Lobby I can't remember how much it was but It wasn't Ruinous. Just not cheap.
I use Canson Cold press water color 140 pound 11 x 15. If I could find it in "rough" it would be better. Rough water color paper is much more forgiving to young students. Card stock does hold up but its much harder to paint on.

If the kids are playing around they get junky cheap paper, but for these fine works of art I'm biting the bullet and getting the good stuff :D
