Should I do dictation every day?

My ds is 13 and doing Rev to Rev this year. He is only in level 5 of dictation though. I am struggling with that since I know he should be farther along. I am thinking about doing dictation every day instead of 3 days a week. He is my "if it isn't written in the book on that day then I am not supposed to do it kid", but I think if I explained that I think it would help him remember his mistakes and move him along more quickly, he would be ok with it. I don't want to stress him out though and I am afraid he will figure out that I feel like he is behind where he should be. So any opinions.

We do dictation every day with Wyatt because spelling has always been more difficult for him.

I think I'd try it with your ds, and see how it goes. If he is sad about it and bucking it because it is not written in the plans, I'd go back to the 3 days a week because your ds has a heart of gold and such a generally sunny attitude toward school - I can't bear the thought of that changing. He actually has until he graduates high school to finish out through level 8. I know Carrie's oldest didn't start dictation right away and is still finishing, so I'd not be too overly concerned about hurrying up the pace. However, if you think the extra day may help move him along a little more easily, I'd try it. HTH, Lynn!

Thanks Julie. I think I will try it every day and see if that helps move him along at a better pace. If it gets to be too much I can drop the extra day. It only adds 10 minutes so it shouldn't be a problem. I am realizing that because he types so many things his spelling probably isn't as good as it should be. I turn spell check off for some things, but for others I don't. I think doing dictation every day should help with that.
