Reading & Phonics Question

I read in a thread somewhere here that Carrie mentioned that Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons dropped off right before proper phonics teaching. We just started to use it as I was planning on teaching my son to read before we started school in the fall.

Now that I've decided on going with HoD curriculum, should I stop using this and wait until we officially start school to use one of the recommended reading books she suggests to teach my son to read?

Also, I was going to use Explode the Code for our phonics instruction. Does anyone have any input for this vs. Reading Made Easy and The Reading Lesson?

Thanks in advance! :)

100 Easy Lessons is similar to Reading Made Easy (although I liked Reading Made Easy A LOT more) so you are fine if you want to continue with that. It does teach phonics in that you learn letter sounds and blends and special sounds in order to learn to read. I would, however, continue with another phonics program once you complete the book and your child is reading!

I LOVE that age of homeschooling. Watching the lightbulb turn on and seeing them learn the beautiful skill of reading is priceless!! Have so much fun!!!

I used 100 Easy Lessons with all four of my children. My first two children did well and it clicked right away for them, reading is their bent. My younger two needed more phonics after 100 Easy, so we did one of Carrie's suggested books. We also are working on EtC. HTH :D
