Started the new school year yesterday!

Post by Tree House Academy » Tue Jul 03, 2012 6:31 pm

We began our 4th year with HOD yesterday!!! We started Rev to Rev at the end of last year, so ds13 picked up in Unit 5. Ds9 began Preparing and we are already loving it so much. I was worried that the writing would be a lot for him, but Bigger prepared him well to go right into Preparing with no problems. I am so excited to delve into the material this year. :) It is shocking to me that, in just one more year I will be repeating CTC with my youngest son! What a blessing to have found HOD when we did!

That's great! We were supposed to start yesterday as well, but a summer cold invaded and we put beginning on hold. Bigger begins on Monday :)

I wish we could begin. We still have almost 5 weeks until we start Bigger. Today I bought a planner for keeping a log to show the school district. So, I feel like I am getting closer. :) I can at least write my objectives and get my affadavit for the new year into the district. :) I always looked forward to the first day of school, even as a student. With HOD I feel like a student again. Very exciting! :D

We started our school year about a month ago, and we are really enjoying it! :) With a new baby coming in the fall, I thought it couldn't hurt to start now. Then we can take some time off in the fall...

Enjoy your new year! :)
Blessings,
Elisabeth

We were supposed to start our new year Monday (and were supposed to finish up last year, last week) but several people got sick, and they still can't figure out what is wrong with Evie. I'm mentally and physically exhausted.

So I suppose I'm going to have to count days we go to the museum or zoo or beach or something this year ;) and VBS is definitely counting.

It's amazing that even though we school year round, I still only get a little over 180 days each year.

One thing I love about not taking a really big break is that I can take time off as needed for whatever tends to pop up in normal life. For now, I'm taking a day totally off every week or two. It gives me a little time to regroup, work on a project, and/or just play with my children.
Blessings,
Elisabeth

I agree... it let's us go on long weekends without having to think about what could count as school. And like the past two weeks, it lets us take off if I just don't have the mental energy to deal with anything extra.

So jealous! I put the oldest two kids in school for a bit, so I was only HSing my 6yo. I can't wait to pick back up with all of them! Summer break usually doesn't end til after labour day here. I told the kids we're starting July 30th though, lol. That gives them a month off. I put together a calendar already. I'm taking a week off every 4-5 weeks, with two off at Christmas, plus all of July. I'm hoping this helps with burn out and allows us some time to just play and have fun.

That sounds like a great schedule! I am always tweeking ours. I find that shorter times off are better for us because we don't totally forget how to do school or what we were studying. haha And I love having more time off at Christmas.

Congratulations Rebecca! :D We are finishing Rev to Rev in a couple of months. We have really loved it. I'll be doing it again next year with the next one ups and repeating CTC again with my youngest group. I have really enjoyed the repeats. I know you are going to love it too. Enjoy your year! :D
