Book Lists Anyone :)

Hi ladies,

I love HOD's book choices and packs. Sometimes we need some other ideas because we have already read the one selected for a certain genre. The great thing about DITHOR is that we can easily sub any book that fits that genre :).

Has anyone compiled a book list of all their books by genre? Would you be willing to share? I am mainly interested in worthy MYSTERY and HUMOR books. They seem to be the hardest to determine by title. I am also hoping for 6th to 9th grade reading level. Thanks for the help.

:) Cindy

I would love to see this also. I picked out my books for my rising 6th grader and we went with The Egypt Game and The Hidden Staircase (Nancy Drew) for her mystery choices. I chose 11 Birthdays and Whales on Stilts for humor, but I haven't read either of those, so I can't really vouch for them. I usually try to read a lot of the kids' books over the summer because during the school year, I don't have as much time.

I would love to see what others have used/are using. I agree: Mystery and Humor are difficult categories. Most of the "Humorous" books I have picked, my DD has declared "not funny." :-(

I'm not sure if it's on the list already, but Animal Farm is a humorous book while teaching about history at the same time. I teach that to my homeschool lit class for Junior High and they always like its quirkiness. I'm also a fan of the Great Brain books for humor. This is about a Mormon family, but at this age I think you can talk about their beliefs somewhat and the religion does not come into the stories from what I remember. They are laugh-out-loud funny :)

My daughter is only in 2nd grade this year so I'm just speaking from my own reading and classroom teaching experience.

I am not sure if you know this already, but HOD sells a book list that you can purchase. It has everything divided up into genre and age group :D We have really enjoyed having it on hand just for extra reading ideas!
