Scheduling Woes

Post by momofjka » Mon Jun 18, 2012 7:40 am

Hi Ladies,

I am sure there is a post out there of what I need, and I will continue to scan the scheduling post... but I was hoping someone might be able to save me a little time by sharing theirs or by sharing a link to a schedule post that is for the same guides I'm using. I am the kind of person who needs things laid out or I get very bogged down and overwhelmed. I am going to be starting the new school year soon, and I will have a child in Little Hearts, Beyond, and Preparing ...plus a new baby! :). Does anyone else have a similar grouping of kiddos that wouldn't mind sharing your schedule? Thank you so much!

I don't have the exact same ones as you do-we're doing Preparing, Beyond, and Little Hands so my youngest one takes less time than yours will and that will make things a little bit different. I think it could be done, though! I hope so, because we'll be moving to Little Hearts in a few months :) This is a schedule that I came up with last week. I've been really fighting against making a schedule because it stresses me out just to look at that scheduling thread  . I finally admitted to myself that something had to change, it was no longer working to fly by the seat of my pants and get to everybody's school every day! I've been pleased with it so far. I came up with it by following the recommendation of someone on the scheduling thread and writing everything on a post it note-every guide had a different color-and wrote times that it would take me, as well as Teacher, Semi-Ind, or Indep work.

Block 1 (45 mins)
LHTH start to finish
Preparing Math

Block 2 (35 mins)
Beyond-left side of plans; can often start on the right side as well.
Preparing-Science, Independent History

Lunch and Time with Daddy (2 hrs)

Block 3 (30 mins)
Preparing-History, Bible Study

Block 4 (30 mins)
Beyond-Reading, Poem, Storytime Activity
Preparing-Geog/Vocab/Timeline; History Project

Short Break-say goodbye to Daddy

Block 5 (45 mins)
Beyond-Spelling, Copywork, Math
Preparing-Storytime, Poem, Grammar, Dictation, DITHR

We do CLE math, so that takes us longer than Singapore if you're using that. The thing that's always thrown me off is that my husband's work schedule has him home in the morning, leaving early afternoon (that's our short break time) and coming home in the middle of the night. Since he and I are up so late at night, we don't get a real early start in the morning, and then if he's around the house it's not always easy for the kids and I to buckle down and do school work. Also, lunch needs to be our main meal with daddy home, and it takes me more time to prepare. I've finally resigned myself to the fact that we're going to have to get a good chunk of our school done after lunch. We try to start by 9:30 and finish up by 3:30 or so. That last block of time is not enough for my dd to finish all of Preparing, but she can sometimes squeeze in her independent stuff earlier if I'm still working with the boys, and then she finishes up DITHR by herself, often after that Block 5 is done. We read the Storytime book for Beyond at bedtime, and then do the activity for it during school the next day. It also helps if we can do Preparing Storytime outside of school time-before breakfast sometimes, or while the kids are eating.

Tamara,
I tried to go to the site hslaunch.com to see your schedule, but it wouldn't let me see any profiles (it said they were unavailable). Is there another way to see them? Or have you posted a schedule here on the HOD website I could see? It may be just me, I'm a little technology challenged. Thanks for any help!

Hi there! I did RevtoRev, PHFHG, and LHFHG half-speed last year. I know these aren't the exact guides you are doing, but maybe this schedule could be a sounding board for you to find something that may be useful...

Or, years back, I did LHFHG, PHFHG, and had a newborn... in case this is more helpful...
