help in bulking up RTR

Hello,

I needed help in bulking up HOD for my soon to be 14 yo (8th gr) DS. He has asked for more challenging work and I guess I can't very well turn a deaf ear. haha

He is finishing up CTC in a few wks. We have taken lots time off during yr for debate and speech tournaments, so we are playing catch up. My plan is to move on to RTR in Aug...is that a good idea or should we skip that and jump to Rev2Rev? I truly would rather not skip though. :|

Thankful for any and all advice...

Sonya,

This post will likely help you as you ponder your possibilities. :D Link: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=7240

You may also wish to revisit the placement chart just to be sure that you have your son well-placed. :D Link: http://www.heartofdakota.com/placing-your-child.php

RTR is much meatier than CTC, so if your son places well into RTR on the placement chart, you should be fine. Since he is 14, you will also want to be sure that he is doing the Extension Pack readings with all of the suggested follow-ups in written narration, oral narration, and notebook style entries. :D

I'll just move this post over to the Main Board where more moms will see it. All new posts begin on the Main Board. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Hi Yaya68, and welcome to the HOD Board! :D Carrie gave such sound advice already, and the link she provided will certainly help! :) I'll just add that if you are finding you want to beef up a guide quite a bit across many subject areas, it could be an indicator that the next guide up would be a better placement. I do think it is key that dc do all of the follow-up skills in a guide, as these are the activities/discussions/assignments that make a guide more difficult. If you look at the first week of RTR with a careful eye, and find ds could easily do all that is asked (and believe me, a lot is asked  ), then maybe take a look at RevtoRev. However, like you said, RTR is awesome - it'd be tough to skip - but if placement shows ds should do RevtoRev, it would be worth moving on to RevtoRev (which, BTW, is another awesome guide anyway  )! HTH and nice to meet you! :D

In Christ,
Julie
