timeline question for R to R....

Hi ladies! I used HOD year before last, this past year (we finished a few weeks ago!!) we used some things for History that we already had instead of doing HOD...my 13 year old son ended this semester about 1/2 way through our Ren and Ref guide (from diff curr.)...my question is this...should be skip the HOD R to R and go straight to REV to Rev? We both looked through the Catalog and want to do Rev to Rev, but wasn't sure about how much we would miss if we skipped R to R. I dont want his whole school year to be a repeat of what he has already read.
Is there somewhere on this site with a timeline that I can see what is covered? I have looked and haven't found it-if not, can someone just tell me maybe a few of the key people that this guide explores? We can read some stuff over the summer and I have the What in the World cd 2 that I am planning to do on our break. I was thinking maybe this would fill the small gap from where he finished in April, and where the Rev to Rev guide picks up.
I hope this wasnt too confusing!!! And as far as placement chart goes, we have Teaching Textbooks already for math, & our R&S books for Lang...
Thanks so much!

Personally if your DC falls into the correct skills placement for Rev to Rev guide and that's what you want to do, then I'd go with that. It would be discouraging to me to have to spend another year on RtR. Your plan to listen to the CD. Though sounds good! It's probably what I would do too!

Hi Shawna,
Have you seen the Table of Contents for RTR (Resurrection to Reformation)?
http://www.heartofdakota.com/rtr_hearts-for-him.php
We just finished it at the top end of the age range for the guide (13-14) and had a great year. We have Rev2Rev here ready to go for the upcoming school year!!

I would try to base placement as much as possible on the skills required to do a guide, as this results in the best year possible no matter what the time period.
I know this is hard to do, but if you can, check out the placement chart (especially the first page of it), looking closely at the RTR and RevtoRev columns. After doing that, the next best placement help I've found is to print off each first week of each guide and compare them, paying close attention to whether ds can do the "I" boxes well independently and the "S" boxes well semi-independently. If I find myself thinking I'll have to step in and help with the "I" boxes, then the younger guide choice is best. Here are some links to help get you going...
Placement chart:

First week of RTR:

First week of RevtoRev:

The skill levels of reading and writing are higher in RevtoRev than in RTR. The history readings, primary source documents, and classical poetry in particular were more of a challenge level in RevtoRev than in RTR for our ds, so those are areas to consider as well. I'd love to hear your thoughts about placement for your ds after you get a chance to look over some of this and share a bit more! I'd feel so much more confident giving placement advice with your thoughts on these areas. We have done both RTR and RevtoRev, and I can honestly say they were both such amazing guides to teach and to do for my ds - so I don't have a favorite between them - the only "favorite" I have is the one that's going to fit your ds the best.
HTH!
In Christ,
Julie

He is definitely on the chart for for the Rev to Rev guides,..I am gonna put him there--my main concern was if he would miss something important in the previous guide if we skipped it. Thanks so much for your help!!!!
