We are currently using R&S English 4 and Write With the Best vol. 1 for our fifth grade dd11. We will only be in lesson 50 of R&S and Unit 3 of WWTB when we finish up this school year. I'm wondering how we should go about getting "on schedule" for RTR that we will be beginning in the fall for 6th grade. I'm not too concerned about English. I think we can skip some things she knows and probably begin English 5 in the fall, unless anyone here has any better ideas! :) I'm not sure at all what to do about writing. Should we just stick with WWTB on our own schedule and skip Medieval Writing altogether or skip out on the rest of WWTB and do Medieval Writing instead? I like WWTB and would like to continue, but I've not actually seen Medieval Writing, and if she is going to miss out on some important writing lessons, I don't want to skip it. Any advice? Suggestions? Thanks in advance!

We're just now finishing RTR for my son's 6th grade year. (And have LOVED it, by the way. ) RTR will continue to use R&S 4 for English. We completed the 2nd half of that text this year for RTR. So, if you did just a few more lessons, and were ready to begin Lesson 64, you'll be right on track and won't need to skip anything. :D You'll also be right on track for HOD's "plan" for English and a very thorough coverage of it. You would finish R&S 4 this year, complete 5 the next year (7th grade), and 6 the next (8th grade). R&S 7 and 8 can then be used as high school English credit as they are worthy of that in their scope and sequence.

Now, for writing lessons... We really enjoyed WWTB, too. But, in your case as you're moving on to RTR, I really would reccommend just moving on to Medieval Writing Lessons. It is a GREAT program, too, and my son and I have really enjoyed it this year! It will loosely coordinate with your history for the year which is a nice tie-in, too. I know that Carrie is scheduling WWTB 2 in a later guide...maybe the new one coming out this year (MTMM)? So, you'll get the WWTB style teaching again.
