Emerging Reader question

Okay,
I hear you saying that you can start your child in the first book in the ER set that they would be best suited for. So, normally the book, Frog and Toad would take "x" amount of days in the manual. Well, I would want to start with say, Amelia Bedillia, and that might say it takes 5 days. How do you line this up if you begin a book that takes longer or shorter than what is planned for you?
I hope I am explaining myself enough.
I know I should just go ahead and purchase my BHFHG and find out for myself....

Linda,

You've probably noticed in the sample plans for Bigger Hearts for a week the "Reading Choices" box on the right side of the plans...the side called "Learning the Basics". In the Reading Choices box, it says to either do "Scheduled Books for Emerging Readers" or "Drawn Into the Heart of Reading". Sooo if your child would be ready for some of the emerging readers...like starting with Amelia Bedelia. Then when you come to that box on day 1, you would read the assigned pages and ask the 3 questions that go with Amelia Bedelia day 1. Then when you're on day 6, you'd move onto the next emerging reader which is Buffalo Bill and the Pony Express...and so on. Then by about unit 19 you'd be ready to start DITHOR.

Hi Linda,

Kathleen did a good job explaining how to use the Emerging Reader set. I would just like to add that post -it notes are great. I place a post-it note sticking out of the book with day we are on for the emerging readers.
