New to Homeschooling

Post by Hollie » Wed May 02, 2012 10:14 am

Hi everyone! My name is Hollie. Starting this next school year I will be homeschooling my 2 boys. We currently live in Mississippi but as of next month we will be moving to Mexico to be the hands and feet of Jesus! We are so excited that God has chosen us to help advance His Kingdom. I was told about several homeschool programs and with a lot of research we are most interested in HOD. But honestly, I need a lot of help and guidence as I prepare to take on this task. My boys will be in the 4th and 7th grades. While tieing up loose ends to make the big move, raising our own support with missions, and the joys of everyday living, I'm asking for advice, support, etc on going about this new adventure for us. Thank you!

Hi,
Welcome to hsing and HOD. You have made two very excellent choices! HOD is hands-down the BEST, IMO, that is out there! I'm so thrilled that I have used it from the start. I would spend some time researching the Charlotte Mason philosophy of education so that you have a better understanding as to why HOD does what it does. If your boys are not used to this non-traditional way of schooling, you may want to ease into the programs as opposed to all of it right away. Please feel free to post specific questions you may have as you will find the ladies here to be incredibly helpful.

Welcome to HOD! I too believe you have made an excellent choice that will make your homeschooling days go smoothly. You will want to take a look at the placement chart, http://www.heartofdakota.com/placing-your-child.php to help you decide which program your children should go in. As a general rule, if the child places between two programs it is best to go down, especially since this will be your first time with HOD. If you have specific questions after looking at the chart let us know, and we will try our best to help you.

Hi Hollie! Welcome to the HOD Board! :D You've made a great choice in HOD - we have so enjoyed our 9 years homeschooling with HOD, and I think you will see the fruits of it as much as we have. :) Have you had a chance to check out the placement chart? I'd love to hear a bit about each of your dc, with the first page of the placement chart in mind especially. Then we can all chat about placement options and get you set for the year! What an exciting journey you have in front of you - we will all be glad to help you start off your HOD part of the journey on the right foot - if you can just share a little about your dc! I'm sure you are super busy, but when you get a chance, please do share your findings, we'd all love to help! :D

In Christ,
Julie
