DITHOR

Post by meandmycuties » Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:33 pm

I have been using DITHOR a couple times/wk but only with our read-alouds. Is it meant to only go along with their independent reading?

Yes it is a separate program that goes with books they read independently. At the 2/3 and 4/5 level they actually spend some of the time reading their book aloud to you.

LynnH is right - Reading through the beginning pages of the DITHOR Teacher's Guide will really help give good information. The "Getting Started" section in the Appendix explains how to use DITHOR step by step, so that's a great place to look too. HTH - and once you do a genre of DITHOR, you'll be off and running - each genre follows a similar pattern. We've enjoyed DITHOR for so many years - I hope you do too! :D

Well I feel kind of silly that we've been using it wrong since last year  . I guess I kind of thought you could use it on a read aloud or independent reading. So if we're using DITHOR for independent reading, how do I know if they're answering the questions correctly? As parent, do you read the book along with them?

I've had my fair share of using things wrong in my life too. Glad we've figured it out together here! As for your last question - I skim it, reading a page from the beginning, middle, and end. Works great! The reading increments are kept small in Charlotte Mason fashion, so it's not hard to do. Also, at the 2/3 and 4/5 levels they are still reading some pages to us. All this works to keep the storyline rolling in my mind. HTH! :D
